Today we’d like to introduce you to Matt Matthews.

Hi Matt, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I often say where I am today, and where Elite Logistix is today, was built on two things: vision and execution.

In 1996, I bought a book called The Idiot’s Guide to Starting Your Own Business. At the time, I didn’t have a business idea, I had intent. I was 26 years old, working in transportation, loading and unloading trucks. What I didn’t realize then was that I was building the foundation for everything that would come later. I developed a deep respect for operations, discipline, and the people who make businesses actually function.

Over the next several years, I worked my way up from the warehouse floor to Director of Distribution for a regional logistics company. That experience gave me something far more valuable than a title, it gave me a full view of how a business operates end-to-end.

In 2005, the company’s ownership made the decision to shut down operations. Instead of simply closing the doors, they approached me with an opportunity to build something of my own out of that transition. When I asked why they chose me, their answer was simple: “You already work like you own the business”.

That moment changed everything.

In 2007, with the support of family and a strong team, I launched Elite Logistics (now Elite Logistix). Nearly two decades later, we’ve built a company defined by longevity, relationships, and performance. We still have original employees with us from day one, and many of our clients have been partners for the majority of that journey.

I didn’t start with a business background. I started with a willingness to learn, a strong work ethic, and a belief that if you surround yourself with the right people, you can build something meaningful. Looking back, the business isn’t a reflection of me carrying a team, it’s a reflection of a team that has carried the business forward together.

At a fundamental level, I believe two things drive outcomes: clarity of vision and belief in execution. You may not land exactly where you planned, but without direction, you don’t move at all. And belief isn’t something that follows success…. it’s what enables it.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No…. this has not been a smooth road. Not even close.

The early years were defined by constant learning. I didn’t come from a formal business background, so I had to develop capabilities in real time; finance, sales, leadership, and people management. Each one of those is a discipline on its own.

Then came the external pressures.

Within our first year, we lost our largest client, which represented approximately 65% of our business. That level of concentration risk should have ended the company. It didn’t, but it forced immediate adaptation and resilience.

Shortly after, the 2009–2010 economic downturn pushed us to within roughly 30 days of shutting down. Again, we found a way through it. Years later, COVID introduced another wave of disruption, testing both our operational stability and leadership discipline.

We’ve also navigated partnerships, some that added value, and others that created friction. That’s part of building a business over time.

The consistent theme across all of it: pressure is constant, uncertainty is guaranteed, and survival requires adaptability.

Those experiences didn’t weaken the business, they hardened it. Every challenge forced better decision-making, stronger discipline, and a clearer understanding of what matters.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
At my core, I am an operator.

I built my career from the warehouse floor up, and I still approach the business through that lens; execution, efficiency, and accountability. Over time, that operational foundation evolved into leadership and strategic direction, which is where I’m primarily positioned today.

Elite Logistix is, on the surface, a warehousing and logistics company. In reality, we function as an integrated extension of our clients’ operations. We are embedded in their supply chains, solving problems they often don’t have the internal structure to solve themselves.

What we are known for is straightforward:

Consistency in performance
Integrity in how we operate
A team-first culture that drives outcomes

The differentiator is not a single service, it’s the reliability of execution over time.

What I’m most proud of is not a single milestone, it’s our durability, and our people, I am most proud of our Team. The fact that we have long-tenured employees and long-term client relationships says more about the business than any growth metric.

Personally, I’ve developed a reputation as a leader who is willing to make decisions, take calculated risks, and push forward without hesitation. That comes from a simple belief: capability is not limited by background, it’s driven by mindset, discipline, and execution.

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My perspective on this has changed over time.

Today, my most meaningful memories aren’t from my own childhood, they’re from watching my children grow up. Seeing them now as adults, and having them involved in the business, creates a different level of appreciation for how quickly time moves.

There’s something unique about working alongside them now, while remembering where it all started. It reinforces both the personal and professional journey at the same time.

That’s what stands out the most, seeing that full cycle come together.
