Today we’d like to introduce you to Holly Gorman.
Hi Holly, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I am 52 years old and at 21 years old I become a Mom and then a single Mom for 15 years. The majority of my life I loved being a mother to my children and when they were adults I was definitely going through the empty nest phase of my life struggling like a lot of mothers do. I had time now and I wanted to fill my time making others happy. I brainstormed what to do and I always had an entrepreneurial mindset so it took me two years to come up with the perfect marrying of ideas for me and I came up with my business, Holly’s Beach Parties & Picnics. I paired my creative side with my party planning side along with making others happy and that is how I started. I love doing parties for others and seeing their faces light up with delight when they see my set ups. I especially love the parties I do for mothers knowing that I’m helping them make beautiful memories for their children like I did with mine. Myrtle Beach is perfect location for my business as well when people come into town I bring that extra element of their vacation to make it extra special.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
My struggles have mostly been the physical aspect of the work at my age. I just got a knee replacement and have Rheumatoid arthritis so the pain sometimes is hard, but I make it work. Also the weather is a factor at times too, but other than that it’s been very rewarding.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am in IT as a computer programmer by day and have worked for Anthem BCBS for 25 years. My business I do on the side.
How do you think about luck?
I don’t really think luck has played a factor. I researched, planned, and worked hard to make my business a success. I also owe a lot to my fiance, Jamie for all his help.
