Today we’d like to introduce you to Julia Watkins.
Hi Julia, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m a nurse by background with over 16 years of experience, but my journey has always been rooted in helping people on a deeper level. Over time, I became more drawn to emotional wellness, mindset work, and creating environments that truly support people, not just physically, but mentally and emotionally as well.
That led me into hypnotherapy and deeper personal development work, where I began to understand how early experiences shape confidence, behavior, and overall well being. From there, I felt led to create something that could impact children early on, before limiting beliefs and emotional patterns take root.
That’s how WhizWorld Kids Academy was born.
WhizWorld is built around the belief that emotional safety comes before learning. I wanted to create a space where children feel seen, supported, and regulated, while still receiving a strong educational foundation. We incorporate heart-centered daily routines like breathing exercises, emotional check ins, and affirmations into the day, making emotional wellness a natural part of the learning experience.
This journey hasn’t been traditional, but it’s been intentional. Every step, from my healthcare background to my work in emotional wellness, has led me to this moment of building something that I believe will truly make a difference.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasn’t been a smooth road, but it has been a purposeful one.
Building something from the ground up always comes with challenges. Navigating licensing, securing the right space, managing finances, and building a team has required a lot of patience and resilience. There have also been moments of uncertainty where things didn’t move as quickly as I would have liked.
At the same time, those challenges have strengthened me and deepened my vision. They’ve helped me become more grounded, more intentional, and more committed to creating something that truly makes an impact.
I’ve learned that not everything has to happen fast, but it does have to be built with intention, and that’s what I’ve focused on every step of the way.
We’ve been impressed with WhizWorld Kids Academy, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
WhizWorld Kids Academy is an early learning center in Columbia, South Carolina, focused on creating a calm, supportive environment where children can thrive both academically and emotionally.
What sets us apart is our focus on emotional wellness as a foundation for learning. We create a space where children feel safe, supported, and confident, allowing learning to happen more naturally. We also prioritize a predictable daily flow so children know what to expect and feel secure throughout the day.
What I’m most proud of is how intentional everything is. Every detail is designed to support the whole child, not just academically, but mentally and emotionally as well.
WhizWorld is more than childcare. It’s a space where children are seen, supported, and given the tools to grow into confident, well rounded individuals.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
I’m truly excited about what’s ahead and the opportunity to continue building something meaningful for children, families, and the community.
WhizWorld Kids Academy is deeply inspired by my grandmother, Dorothy Watkins, who was a preschool teacher with a genuine love for children. She had a gift for making children feel safe, seen, and cared for and that’s something I carry with me in this work every day.
Being able to build something that honors her legacy while serving today’s families is incredibly meaningful to me, and I’m committed to growing WhizWorld into a place that leaves a lasting, positive impact.
