Hi Alton, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey started in college, during a time when no one would give me a chance or even consider me for a job. So I decided if no one would hire me, I’d hire myself. After hours, days, and months of watching motivational videos, showing up at networking events, and learning everything I could, I realized something powerful: I could build my own path. That realization gave me the confidence to start my first business.
I didn’t know exactly what business to start at first, but I had the drive. Eventually, two friends from high school and I launched a company selling ads. We built it up and sold it to Google. After that exit, I started my next venture, the marketing agency I run today, The Preppy Family, now a thriving company with 30 amazing employees.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been an easy road. There were moments of real mental strain, trying to hold everything together while stepping into a world I knew nothing about. I didn’t major in business, I studied Child Development, so when I entered the business world, I didn’t know the terminology, the lingo, or even the basics. Everything felt foreign.
So I had to learn it all from scratch. Figuring things out on my own, meeting new people, and showing up to networking sessions when I barely understood the conversations around me was tough. But I kept going. Every room I walked into, every conversation I pushed myself to have, helped me grow into the entrepreneur I am today.
