Check Out Katie Morse’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Morse.

Hi Katie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
For years, I struggled with persistent skin issues—acne, perioral dermatitis—you name it. I tried everything: 13-step skincare routines, prescription retinols, facials, harsh treatments. While I managed to keep my skin somewhat under control, I ultimately damaged my skin barrier with all the aggressive products I was using.

By the summer of 2024, my acne was the worst it had been in years. I felt defeated, insecure, and exhausted from chasing the elusive “glass skin” everyone seems to want. That’s when I took a step back and started researching how to heal my skin barrier and return to the basics.

During my deep dive, I came across others using tallow for skincare, praising its intensely nourishing and hydrating properties. Since we already used tallow in cooking, I had some on hand. One day, in my kitchen, I decided to experiment—I blended tallow with other skin-loving ingredients such as castor oil and frankincense, creating a simple, nutrient-rich lotion.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Getting this business off the ground hasn’t been easy, but we’ve made meaningful progress along the way. We’ve been fortunate to partner with a handful of local stores in Charleston and showcase our product at events throughout the past year. While it’s certainly been challenging, we truly believe in what we’re building and more importantly, our customers do too. That support is what continues to drive and motivate us every day.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m the founder of TALLO, a tallow-based skincare brand focused on creating simple, effective products made from high-quality, thoughtfully sourced ingredients. My background is in ecommerce and digital marketing, where I specialize in paid media strategy, creative testing, and scaling customer acquisition in a data-driven way. I’ve spent years helping brands grow online, and I bring that same strategic lens into building TALLO.

What I’m most proud of is taking an idea and turning it into a real, tangible brand—getting our products into local Charleston stores, connecting directly with customers, and seeing genuine love for something we’ve built from the ground up. It’s been a hands-on process, from formulation to branding to marketing, and that’s something I take a lot of pride in.

What sets me apart is the combination of both sides of the business—I understand how to build a product people truly love, and I also know how to position, market, and scale it effectively. I’m very detail-oriented and intentional, whether it’s refining formulations, crafting messaging, or analyzing performance. I care deeply about quality, transparency, and creating something that actually works, and that shows up in everything I do.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Consistency. Building something from the ground up isn’t about one big moment, it’s about showing up every single day, especially when it’s hard or progress feels slow. There have been plenty of challenges, but staying consistent in improving the product, learning, and putting TALLO in front of new people has made the biggest difference. That consistency is paired with a strong belief in what I’m building. Even when things feel uncertain, I trust the process and the feedback from customers, and that’s what keeps me moving forward.
