Meet Lex Campbell of Holy City Semper Fido

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lex Campbell.

Hi Lex, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Animals have always been at the center of my life. Growing up, they were everywhere. My grandfather had pigs, chickens, and horses, and I was the kid constantly rescuing animals, dogs, cats, birds, squirrels, anything that needed help. Caring for animals was never something I learned later. It was simply part of who I was.

I was raised by my mom after losing my father at a young age, and that experience shaped my sense of responsibility and resilience. Later, I joined the Marine Corps. The military taught me discipline, leadership, and structure, skills that eventually became the foundation for running a business.

After leaving the military and working in operations leadership roles, I realized I wanted to build something that truly aligned with my passion. That is when I founded Holy City Semper Fido.

The goal was simple. Create a place where pets receive the kind of care I would want for my own. Today, the business focuses on personalized care through boarding, daycare, walks, and in home pet sitting. Every dog has different needs, energy levels, and personalities, and we take pride in tailoring our care to each individual pet.

What started as a lifelong love for animals has grown into a trusted service built on relationships, consistency, and genuine care for every dog in our pack.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Like most entrepreneurial journeys, it has not been a completely smooth road. Building a business from the ground up comes with a lot of learning, adjustment, and resilience along the way.

One of the biggest challenges has been balancing growth while protecting the quality of care that makes the service special. Pet care is incredibly personal. People are trusting you with animals that are truly part of their family, and that level of responsibility requires consistency, clear communication, and strong boundaries.

Another challenge has been creating the right structure as the business evolved. As demand grew, it became important to develop systems that support both the dogs and the people caring for them. That is part of what led to transitioning toward a membership style model. By keeping a consistent group of dogs, we are able to create a calmer, more predictable environment that benefits everyone.

Like many small business owners, there have been moments that required patience and adaptability. But those experiences have ultimately helped shape the business into what it is today. Each challenge reinforced the importance of staying focused on the original mission, providing thoughtful, reliable care and creating a place where dogs feel safe, understood, and genuinely cared for.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Holy City Semper Fido is built around one core belief. Dogs deserve thoughtful, structured care that respects their individual needs, energy levels, and personalities. Our goal is to create a safe and comfortable environment where dogs can relax, socialize appropriately, and feel at ease while their owners are away.

We offer boarding, daycare, and in home pet sitting, but what truly sets us apart is our membership style model. Rather than operating as a high volume pet care service, we maintain a consistent pack of dogs that attend regularly. This allows the dogs to build familiarity with one another and creates a calmer, more predictable environment. It also allows us to truly understand each dog’s temperament, routine, and needs.

We also offer pickup and drop off for many of our daycare and boarding clients, which makes things easier for busy pet owners while helping us maintain structure throughout the day.

Structure and supervision are central to our philosophy. Not every dog needs the same type of day. Some benefit from more activity and enrichment, while others thrive with a slower pace and structured rest.

What I am most proud of is the environment we have created. Over time, Holy City Semper Fido has become more than a service. It is a trusted place where dogs return regularly, feel comfortable, and become part of a consistent pack.

What matters most to you?
What matters most to me is trust and the well-being of every dog in our care. When someone leaves their dog with us, they are entrusting us with a member of their family, and that responsibility is something I take very seriously.

I am passionate about creating an environment where dogs feel safe, understood, and genuinely cared for. Every dog has their own personality, energy level, and needs, and it matters to me that each one is supported in a way that helps them thrive.

At the heart of it, this work is about relationships. Seeing a dog relax, enjoy their day, and return home happy and confident reminds me why I do this. That connection and trust is what drives everything we do at Holy City Semper Fido.
