Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
For me, a sense of purpose has always been paired with an inner drive. I’ve always been a hard worker. I’m a go-getter with a relentless determination that doesn’t know how to stop. I earned my Master’s degree from Cumberland School of Law and hold a certification as a Certified Enterprise Risk Professional. Today, I serve as the Vice President and Director of Enterprise and Third-Party Risk Management for DR Bank, a Connecticut-based, FDIC-insured, state-chartered bank that provides community and digital banking, commercial and small-business lending, and fintech partnership services to help individuals and businesses manage their finances and access credit. I’ve been with my company for nearly a decade, and my passion for what I do has only grown stronger over time. It’s an outstanding organization, and I take pride in contributing each day to DR Bank’s continued success. Yet, despite a fulfilling career, I felt a pull to do more and to dedicate my time on this Earth to something greater than myself. I wanted to serve others in a different way, to create something rooted in love and centered on bringing pure joy to people’s lives. So I did just that, and founded the professional, luxurious, 5-star rated, multi-award winning, woman-owned small business: WMJ Photo Booth.
WMJ Photo Booth, founded in September 2021, was born out of a deep love for my family who are the very people who inspire everything I do. I am incredibly blessed with my husband, James; two daughters, Winnie and Mila; and my son, Jalen. I thought I knew happiness before them, but it wasn’t until I became a wife and parent that I truly understood what joy feels like.
That calling became my tribute to my family and is what founded WMJ Photo Booth. It is the ultimate expression of my commitment to them and the life I want to build. In honoring that commitment, I founded a way to capture meaningful moments, create lasting memories, and help others celebrate life’s most special occasions through WMJ Photo Booth.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting a business is rarely a smooth journey. It is often marked by challenges, unexpected turns, and moments of uncertainty, but those experiences ultimately shape resilience and growth.
Along the way, I faced obstacles such as believing in my vision when others did not, building a brand from the ground up while working full-time, and balancing the responsibilities of raising three young children. Through it all, I remained committed to working tirelessly, not only to bring my vision to life, but to ensure that my dreams would elevate my family, making them beneficiaries of my efforts rather than burdened by them.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
For my professional career with DR Bank, I serve as the Vice President and Director of Enterprise and Third party Risk Management. I am mainly responsible for identifying, assessing, and managing risks that could affect an organization’s financial stability, operations, reputation, and regulatory compliance. The role involves developing and maintaining an enterprise risk management framework, analyzing potential risks such as credit, market, liquidity, operational, and regulatory risks, and implementing strategies to mitigate or control them. On a daily basis, I monitor key risk indicators, conduct scenario analysis and stress testing, and provide regular risk reports to senior leadership and the board to support informed decision-making. I also work closely with departments such as finance, compliance, audit, and IT to ensure risk awareness is integrated across the organization and that the company meets regulatory requirements while pursuing its strategic objectives.
Outside of my professional career when pursuing my business as WMJ Photo Booth, I am the Founder and Owner of South Carolina’s #1 photo booth rental company and home to Alabama’s premier audio guestbook services. My company specializes in modern, interactive photo booth rentals that allow guests to take photos, GIFs, and create short videos during events. Our booths feature touchscreen interfaces, LED lighting, customizable photo templates, instant photo printing, and digital sharing options such as email, text, QR codes, and online galleries. WMJ Photo Booth also offers themed props, decorative backdrops, and personalized designs so each event experience matches the style of the celebration. Our booths are self-run, portable, and our audio guestbooks capture voices of loved ones on any special occasion.
