Today we’d like to introduce you to Tara Mueller.
Hi Tara, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My journey into chiropractic really started with a deep interest in the human body and how it functions. I completed my undergraduate degree in kinesiology at the University of Central Florida, where I developed a strong foundation in movement, health, and performance. From there, I went on to earn my Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Sherman College of Chiropractic.
During chiropractic school, I became especially interested in the connection between the spine, nervous system, and overall health. I was drawn to a more neurologically focused approach to care and later became Webster Certified, which allows me to provide specialized care for pregnant patients.
After graduating, I opened my own practice, The Catalyst Spine Co., in Greenville, South Carolina. My vision for the practice was to create a space where people could receive thoughtful, personalized care that focuses on the root cause of issues rather than just temporary symptom relief. I primarily work with families, athletes, and expecting mothers, helping them improve function, reduce pain, and support their nervous system health.
Building the practice has been both exciting and challenging, but it has also been incredibly rewarding. I’ve had the opportunity to connect with my local community and watch patients regain confidence in their bodies and their health. My goal is to continue growing The Catalyst Spine Co. as a place where people feel empowered, supported, and truly cared for.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Overall, it has actually been a fairly smooth road, but like any entrepreneurial journey, there have definitely been challenges along the way. Opening a practice from the ground up requires wearing many different hats — clinician, business owner, marketer, and community connector — which can be overwhelming at times.
One of the biggest challenges has been learning the business side of healthcare. In school, we spend years mastering clinical skills, but running a practice involves everything from marketing and networking to managing finances and building systems that support patients well. That learning curve has been a big part of the journey.
Another challenge is simply building awareness in the community. When you open a new practice, people don’t always know you’re there yet, so a lot of time goes into meeting people, attending local events, and creating relationships with other businesses and healthcare providers.
That said, those challenges have also been some of the most rewarding parts of the process. They’ve pushed me to grow not just as a chiropractor, but as a business owner and a leader in my community. Seeing the practice gradually grow and watching patients experience real improvements in their health makes all of it worth it.
We’ve been impressed with The Catalyst Spine Co., but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The Catalyst Spine Co. is a neurologically focused chiropractic practice based in Greenville, South Carolina. My goal with the practice is to provide thoughtful, specific chiropractic care that supports the body’s natural ability to heal and function at its best.
In my work, I focus heavily on the relationship between the spine, the nervous system, and overall health. When the spine isn’t moving well or is under stress, it can affect how the nervous system communicates with the rest of the body. Chiropractic care helps restore proper motion and function, which can improve pain, mobility, and overall well-being.
I work with a wide range of patients, but I’m especially passionate about caring for families, athletes, and pregnant women. I am Webster Certified, which means I have additional training in providing chiropractic care during pregnancy, with the goal of supporting pelvic balance and comfort throughout pregnancy and preparing the body for birth.
What sets The Catalyst Spine Co. apart is the intentional and personalized approach to care. I take time to perform comprehensive exams and truly understand what’s going on with each patient before beginning treatment. Every care plan is individualized, and I prioritize education so patients understand what’s happening in their bodies and how chiropractic care can help.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud that the practice was built around the idea of being a “catalyst” for change in people’s health. The name reflects the idea that sometimes the body just needs the right stimulus to start healing and functioning better again. I wanted the practice to feel welcoming, modern, and community-centered — a place where people feel heard, supported, and empowered in their health journey.
Ultimately, my goal is for patients to feel like they’re receiving care that is intentional, honest, and focused on long-term health rather than quick fixes.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
To me, success is about creating meaningful impact. Of course, growing a business and reaching certain milestones is important, but what matters most is the difference you make in people’s lives.
As a chiropractor, success is seeing patients regain confidence in their bodies, return to activities they love, and feel better in ways they didn’t think were possible. When someone tells me they’re sleeping better, moving better, or simply feel more like themselves again, that’s incredibly rewarding.
From a business perspective, success also means building something that reflects my values — a practice that is honest, patient-centered, and rooted in helping people rather than rushing them through care.
Ultimately, I see success as creating a practice that not only helps people heal and function better, but also becomes a trusted part of the community.
