Today we’d like to introduce you to Solomon Jacobs.
Hi Solomon, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
As a kid, I was curious about everything! Anything that was something I didn’t know, I would want to become an expert at it. My interest ranged from space to geology but also to humanities, culture, and religion. This curiosity is a large part of what led to my interest in engineering. As a kid, the most diverse and fast moving sector of the world was engineering. There was always something new and exciting about “The Next New Thing.”
In High School I started to explore this more with my classes and got into coding class and then I realize that I hated it! While coding offers the most flexibility in creativity, it is so monotonous. Then I found networking and also data analytics. This grew my interest in data and how it moves. I had also been playing in competitive sports all my life but in college, my ankles could not take it and I had to drop my team but I had gotten really into nutrition. I had everything, the calorie tracker, apple watch, and Oura ring but something was missing.
There was no app telling me similar information as my apple watch for my nutrition. So, being the change I wanted to see in the world, I founded Vertical Nutrition.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has been everything but smooth. My first business idea crashed and burned in a fantastic way which put around 3 months of hard work into the ground, but working in this field has been anything but easy. Lots of meetings and product insight conversations with my ideal customer were had and I most likely had up to 30+ hours of meeting with people to learn their pain points before building a product. This was essential to avoid pitfalls later but was definitely challenging. This is also a long and slow road, so even if it is not smooth, the bumps aren’t as big of a deal as where the road is going.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Vertical Nutrition is a predictive nutrition intelligence platform designed for high-performing individuals and teams who want more than basic calorie tracking. We focus on helping people understand how food affects their energy, focus, recovery, and performance.
Most nutrition apps are reactive. They tell you what you already ate or how many calories you consumed. Vertical is built around prediction. We use food-response modeling, satiety forecasting, and energy curve projections to help users understand how their meals will impact performance throughout the day. Instead of simply logging macros, users gain clarity on how nutrition choices influence their output and results.
What sets us apart is our focus on personalization. As users log meals and provide feedback, the platform learns patterns and develops a personalized nutrition profile. Over time, the experience becomes less about tracking and more about making strategic decisions.
I am most proud that Vertical was created from a real personal need. While using performance wearables and tracking tools, I realized there was no system providing the same level of insight for nutrition. Vertical exists to close that gap by helping people take control of their nutrition in a practical and actionable way.
Our goal is not restrictive dieting or perfection. We help people understand cause and effect so they can align their nutrition with their goals, whether that is athletic performance, productivity, or overall health. We are building a more proactive approach to nutrition.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success is a lot of things. It is highly dependent on what you are talking about. Success in a business is not success in classes. People graduating college with a 3.9 vs a 4.0 would view the 4.0 as a success but people who dropped out view both of them as successful. For me, success is more of a fulfillment of goals. I want to be able to say I did “x” and it is doing well but also ….
