Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Williams-Holloway.
Hi Lisa, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I began my career as a CNA at around the age of 18 years old. As time passed I increased my education and experience, deversifying my work over the years to be more well rounded, well read and learned. I began Assessments Unlimited in 2004, and it remained a side business until I gained the experience I felt I needed to turn it into a medical practice, and now, I have earned two undergraduate degrees, two masters degrees, my doctor of nursing practice and most of all 30+ years of hardwork and experience.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it definitely has not. Coming from small town South Carolina, and being the first person in my family to even attend college, the buck stopped with me. I had to figure things out for myself. However, I don’t complain about it, because it only made me stronger, smarter, and truly forced me to put the work in.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I feel that two of the categories previously noted fit my description. I am a business/practice/firm in that the business in which I conduct in Assessments Unlimited provides medical services to veterans and others in the community, yet there is another side to me in that I love to write. In 2013, I started my own publishing company and began self-publishing my own novels. I have written four fantasy novels which three of my Kindles are Amazon Best Sellers. I am constantly trying to build myself, and at this time I am in the process of educating myself on content creation for a business idea that I have been working on for some time. However, I am also a keynote/motivational speaker when called on, and I also tutor, precept and train the next generation of nurse practitioners, and serve on evidence based medicine research projects for current doctoral candidates in my current practice.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I don’t have an exact app that I am married to. I love audible because it allows me to listen to audio books when I am doing things such as exercising or cleaning, that can allow me to learn at the same time, and increase my value by investing in myself.
