Today we’d like to introduce you to MaryEllen Eller, MD.
Hi MaryEllen, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Dr. MaryEllen Eller is a board-certified psychiatrist recognized for her clinical expertise, leadership, and holistic approach to mental health. Dr. Eller’s training spans general adult psychiatry and specialty training in what to do when traditional interventions (medications and psychotherapy) have not helped enough. “Medications and therapy are valuable tools and have saved many lives; however, many people continue to have symptoms despite these treatments.” Dr Eller joined Radial in 2025 as the Regional Medical Director to help increase access to interventions that can help when medicine and psychotherapy hasn’t helped enough.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The privilege of being a psychiatrist is both challenging and deeply meaningful. It is an honor to bear witness to the healing journeys I share with my clients.
Earlier in my career, I often felt frustrated when my patients did everything right — engaged in therapy, took medications as prescribed, made lifestyle changes — and yet continued to suffer. Watching people work so hard without achieving remission compelled me to pursue additional training in treatments such as transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), neurofeedback, and other innovative brain-based interventions.
I hold firmly to the belief that when we know better, we must do better. Since the early 2000s, our understanding of brain disease and neuroplasticity has expanded exponentially. We now have effective, well-tolerated interventions that can help the brain heal in ways that were not previously possible.
What remains frustrating are the barriers that still limit access to these treatments — including inadequate insurance coverage for evidence-based, accelerated treatment protocols. The science has advanced. Our responsibility now is to ensure that access advances with it.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Dr Eller joined Radial in 2025 as the Regional Medical Director to help increase access to interventions that can help when medicine and psychotherapy hasn’t helped enough. She provides medical leadership and care to clients in Myrtle Beach, Conway and Spartanburg SC.
Radial specializes in rapid-acting and innovative treatments that treat brain diseases like depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder that haven’t responded to medication. At Radial, we offer personalized, non-invasive treatment options like transcranial magentic stimulation (TMS), neurofeedback and in-home wearable devices (i.e. ProLivRx, Monarch, Relivion). We also offer in-office treatments with rapid-acting medications such as Spravato. Radial exists to help people reclaim their lives by providing access to advanced treatments for hard-to-treat brain diseases.
Dr Eller is thrilled to partner with patients and witness their recovery journeys – often after years of suffering. “It’s inspiring and energizing to support people as they reclaim their lives. Every week, I have the privilege of sitting with individuals who tell me they’re truly living again for the first time in years. They’re enjoying life. They’re experiencing joy in their relationships. They have the energy to spend time with their grandkids. They can walk into the grocery store without fearing a panic attack. That’s real, meaningful recovery. I’m honored to be part of the team bringing these treatments to South Carolina.”
Who else deserves credit in your story?
First and foremost, it belongs to the patients — the individuals who trust us enough to partner in their care. Healing requires courage. Choosing to pursue treatment, especially after disappointment or years of suffering, is no small act. Their willingness to show up, do the work, and stay engaged is the foundation of everything we do.
It also belongs to Radial’s leadership team, who tirelessly advocate for expanded access to advanced brain-based treatments. Behind the scenes, they push for broader insurance coverage, accelerated protocol approval, and sustainable systems that allow more people to receive care. Access does not happen accidentally — it requires persistence and vision.
And it belongs to Living Water, the nonprofit partner that helps ensure underinsured and uninsured individuals are not left behind. Their commitment helps bridge the gap between innovation and accessibility, reinforcing the belief that effective treatment should not be reserved only for those with ideal coverage.
Radial’s success is not the result of any one person or program. It is the result of partnership — patients, advocates, clinicians, and community — working together toward one goal: real remission and restored lives.
