Exploring Life & Business with Todd Pinkler of Voodoo Brewery Co Myrtle Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Todd Pinkler.

Hi Todd, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in northern New Jersey and joined the Marine Corps directly after the 9/11 attacks. Originally I planned to stay in for four years but eventually retired after 22 years of service. After taking orders for a majority of my career, I decided I wanted to be my own boss so I inquired about Voodoo Brewery. After several discussions with the franchisor, I opened Voodoo Brewery Co Myrtle Beach in May 2024.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Although the military has taught me many lifelong lessons, developed great leadership and characteristics traits, it does differ greatly from the hospitality industry. Even though I have the backing of a franchise, the buildout of the pub, acquiring all the necessary permits and insurance, and hiring falls on me. Even though many of these areas were uncharted territories for me, the military taught me that failure is not an option.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Voodoo Brewery Co Myrtle Beach is a veteran owned, family ran, independently operated brew pub located at Myrtle Beach’s #1 attraction location – Broadway at the Beach. We have 20 beers on tap, craft cocktails, wine, mocktails, and soda. In addition to our great tasting beers and cocktails, we have upscale pub food to pair with our drinks. We were voted second best burgers at Broadway at the Beach and we source all of our bread products from a local bakery. We are community driven sponsoring the local Myrtle Beach Rugby Team, host several veteran fundraisers and blood drives.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Many people do not know that we are a franchise for several reasons. One, it is a small franchise with only 30 pubs open throughout the nation. Second, as the owner, I am always here greeting customers and welcoming everyone into the pub.
