Today we’d like to introduce you to Colton Conner.
Hi Colton, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
From an early age, I have always had a love for playing and creating music. I started my music journey as a child hitting pots with wooden spoons on the kitchen floor and now drumming on stage for thousands of people.
Most of my early years were focused on rudimentary and marching percussion. I primarily played snare in middle and high school, and later joined some independent WGI groups to compete with.
I later found a love for drum set and became very involved with my local church’s worship band. This was life changing for me both spiritually and musically. I’ve learned so much over the years and now record drums, produce songs, and mix audio from my home studio.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been a completely smooth road. Building a studio career takes time, and there have been slow seasons, financial pressure, and moments of uncertainty that tested my resilience.
One of the most defining challenges came early on when my father passed away. He was a major inspiration in my life and one of the strongest supporters of my music. Losing him while I was building this career forced me to reflect deeply on my purpose and commitment.
Naming my studio, Alley Cat Studio after my father became deeply personal. He was a truck driver and his name on the road was “Alley Cat”. To me, it represents resilience – the ability to adapt, endure, and keep moving forward regardless of the circumstances. That spirit mirrors both my journey and the strength my dad modeled for me.
The road hasn’t always been easy, but every challenge has refined my craft, strengthened my character, and deepened my resolve to build something meaningful.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m the founder of Alley Cat Studio, where I provide remote drum recording, mixing, and detailed audio editing for artists, producers, and businesses.
What sets me apart is a mix of musicianship and engineering. I don’t just understand how to play the parts, I understand how they translate through microphones, preamps, and a project. That perspective allows me to deliver tracks that sit naturally in a production.
At the core of it all, I care about excellence, character, and long-term relationships. I want the work to speak for itself, but I also want the experience of working together to be just as strong as the final product.
What matters most to you? Why?
Honoring God and supporting my family. This is at the core of what I do.
I hold myself to a high standard and aim to live a life of integrity. From this, my goal is to foster strong business relationships built on trust with the artists and businesses I work with.
I love creating beautiful things and being part of the process. People are always consuming content, so if I can help encourage someone or boost their spirits in this world, it’s worth it.
