Today we’d like to introduce you to Yolando Lewis.
Hi Yolando, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I learned the importance of documenting life at an early age. I lost all of my grandparents except one, by the age of 14. I have very little photos and videos of them. And oh how I wish I did. I’ve always had an eye for photography. I decided to invest in my interest professionally around 2017. With the help and encouragement of the community over time, I am now widely known as SnapShots By Landa Photography.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has definitely been curved and bumpy lol. However, I grew up in the small community of St. John in the Lynchburg area of Sumter County. I’ve learned how to drive on those roads best. Meaning you learn how to navigate and overcome obstacles. There are times when you are out bid on contracts, or a more “popular” photographer is chosen or even watching your family and friends support others. But I appreciate the loyalty and genuineness of the clients that have chosen and continue to choose me to capture their memories.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Snapshots by Landa Photography is more than a photography business — it’s a storytelling brand rooted in community, connection, and legacy. I specialize in capturing authentic moments that feel real, emotional, and timeless. My work ranges from family and generational portraits to milestone celebrations, sports photography, community events, and creative themed sessions that help people see themselves in a new light.
What I’m known for most is creating a comfortable experience where people feel seen. Many of my clients tell me they aren’t “photogenic,” but my goal is to make every session feel natural, fun, and meaningful. I focus heavily on storytelling and emotion rather than stiff poses, which allows personalities to shine through every image. I don’t just photograph moments — I preserve legacies.
I’m most proud of the way my photography serves my community. From free holiday shoots and soldier send-offs to mentoring young entrepreneurs and capturing important life milestones, my camera has become a tool for connection and impact — not just business. I have even been told from a client that “My Camera is My Ministry!”
What sets me apart is that I don’t just take pictures; I build relationships. I understand the importance of preserving memories, especially for families and communities that want their stories documented with intention and care. Every session is personal, and every client becomes part of the Snapshots by Landa family.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
What I’m most proud of is the deeper purpose my photography has revealed. Over time, I realized that behind every session was something bigger — confidence being restored, stories being reclaimed, and people learning to see themselves differently. That journey naturally led me to create Be-U-Tifully You, a nonprofit organization focused on empowering young girls and women through confidence building, mentorship, leadership development, and personal growth. Photography was the spark, but the mission became transformation.
