Hidden Gems: Meet Logan LaMance of Kanga Coolers

Today we’d like to introduce you to Logan LaMance.

Logan, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Kanga started with frustration, uncertainty, and a gut feeling I couldn’t ignore.

I was a student at Clemson when I had the idea. My friends and I were heading to a tailgate, and like always, we’d grab a cold case of beer and just drink it as it got warm. Not because better coolers didn’t exist—but because using one was a hassle. Ice, loading it up, hauling it around, draining it later. For a few hours of tailgating, convenience won over cold every time.

That stuck with me. The beer was already cold. Why couldn’t it just stay cold? Why did convenience and performance have to be a tradeoff? What if you could have both?

I worked with a local seamstress and built the first prototype—a Koozie for an entire case of beer. When I finally created one that could keep a case cold for a full seven hours without ice, I knew this was something real.

After graduating, I moved back into my parents’ basement and went all in. No safety net. I packed every order myself. Answered every email. There were long stretches where nothing felt certain—just belief and the willingness to keep going.

Slowly, it grew. One customer turned into ten. Ten turned into thousands. People connected with it because it solved a problem they’d quietly accepted for years. When my cofounders and I appeared on Shark Tank, it became clear this was bigger than we ever imagined.

Today, Kanga has grown into a national, multi-million-dollar brand. But the core hasn’t changed. It’s still built on that original belief—that small frustrations often hide big opportunities, and sometimes the biggest risk you can take is betting on yourself.

Kanga didn’t start as a business plan. It started as a feeling. And I followed it.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has never been a smooth road.

In the beginning, the hardest part was the uncertainty. I was living in my parents’ basement, pouring everything I had into Kanga and hoping it would work. Every inventory order felt like a gamble. Too much, and I could lose everything. Too little, and I’d miss the opportunity in front of me. There were nights where I’d lie awake wondering if I had made a mistake betting on myself.

I had no experience with manufacturing or building a product company. I had to learn everything the hard way—factories, logistics, quality control. I made expensive mistakes. Shipments were delayed. Products didn’t always come out the way I envisioned.

Even after early momentum and Shark Tank, there were moments where growth slowed and doubt crept back in. Success didn’t mean safety. It just meant the stakes were higher. More recently, rising costs, tariffs, and global supply chain challenges have forced us to operate with far less margin for error. Every decision carries weight.

The hardest part of all has been carrying the responsibility. When you build something from nothing, there’s no roadmap and no guarantees. Just belief, persistence, and the willingness to keep going when things feel uncertain.

But those struggles shaped Kanga. They forced resilience. They forced growth. And they made every milestone along the way mean that much more.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Kanga Coolers?
Kanga Coolers exists to bring fun and convenience to beverage cooling. Our mission is simple. We remove the hassle so people can focus on enjoying the moment.

We are best known for creating coolers that keep drinks cold without ice. Instead of dealing with ice, water, and the mess that comes with it, our products allow people to simply place a cold case directly into the cooler and go. It is a simpler, more intuitive way to keep drinks cold, built around how people actually live.

What sets Kanga apart is our willingness to question assumptions. We do not accept inconvenience as inevitable. We redesign products from the ground up to make them easier and more enjoyable to use. That mindset has allowed us to grow from a basement startup in Greenville, South Carolina into a national brand serving customers across the country.

What I am most proud of is that people connect with Kanga on an emotional level. Our products are part of tailgates, lake days, road trips, and everyday moments with friends and family. We are not just building coolers. We are building a brand focused on making life more fun and more convenient.

As we grow, we are expanding beyond coolers and into new beverage experiences. Our long term vision is to build innovation platforms centered around beverage cooling, creating products that challenge convention and redefine what people expect.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Starting Kanga was the biggest risk I’ve ever taken. After graduating, I moved back into my parents’ basement and committed fully to building something that had no guarantees. I had no experience, no safety net, and no certainty it would work. Every dollar I invested into inventory was money I could not afford to lose, but I believed deeply in the idea.

I have come to view risk differently over time. The biggest risk is not trying. It is living with the regret of wondering what could have been. When I started Kanga, the safe path was to take a stable job. Instead, I chose uncertainty because I knew the opportunity to build something meaningful was rare.

That mindset has stayed with me as the company has grown. Whether it is launching new products, investing in innovation, or navigating challenges like tariffs and rising costs, growth always requires stepping into the unknown. There is never a moment where risk disappears. You just become more comfortable carrying it.

I do not take risks blindly. I take risks when I believe in the long term vision and when the potential upside justifies the uncertainty. Building Kanga has taught me that meaningful progress rarely comes from playing it safe. It comes from having conviction and being willing to move forward before you have all the answers.
