Inspiring Conversations with Nick D’Allesandro of D’Allesandro’s Pizza

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nick D’Allesandro.

Hi Nick, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My brother, Ben, and I opened our pizza restaurant in June 2006 at 229 Saint Philip Street in Downtown Charleston. We knew how to make pizza and were both “young and dumb” so we decided to try opening our own shop while we were young. Our focus was to be on delivery and take-out but people loved our in-house vibe so dine was an unexpected bonus. We’ve now been open for 20 years but it still feels like we’re learning everyday and always trying to figure out what is around the next corner.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The journey of operating a restaurant is never smooth but we have been fortunate to have a relatively smooth path. I think a lot of the “smoothness” comes from just showing up for work every day and planning on making pizzas. There were struggles with learning how to be an owner and how to deal with people, broken equipment, growing sales, social media, online ordering. We’ve continued adapting to the world and we’ve tried to be good to our employees. And always making the best pizza we can possibly make.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about D’Allesandro’s Pizza?
I own and operate D’Allesandro’s Pizza in Charleston and Summerville South Carolina. We make hand tossed NY Style pizza from our own dough and sauce recipes, we cut our cheese fresh. We are known for having great pizza and salads with a laid back neighborhood friendly vibe. We are also known for our delivery and catering business. We are the premier local pizza delivery and take-out restaurant in Charleston.

I am most proud brand wise of still getting along well with my brother after 20 years of business and we are both committed to making high quality pizzas and happy customers.

Your readers should know that we are committed to serving them a great meal when they are in Charleston.

What matters most to you? Why?
Family. Without family you’ve got no one to care for and no one to care about you.
