Rising Stars: Meet Ailsa Foulke of Mt. Pleasant

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ailsa Foulke.

Ailsa , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Platform – A Consciousness Studio started 2 and a half years ago as a place to Breathe. I wanted a place where I could practice mindfulness offerings such as sound baths, breathework, guided meditations and mindful yoga on a consistent basis. The idea hit, let’s bring this all under one roof and Platform was born! I recognized Platform could fill a need in the social impact world by providing tools to reset and calm the mind and body with science backed practices.

We began as offering 30 minute pre-recorded guided meditations on a headset where one could drop in anytime as well as one off special events. We’ve expanded to include daily classes; sound baths, breathework, guided meditations and mindful yoga. We have a retail shop within the studio which sells local products only and that correlate to our studio offerings and experience, such as candles, yoga mats and blocks, essential oils.

We got to where we are today with the incredible teachers we have and the community we have built. Our teachers have extraordinary experience in their area of expertise, they are very knowledgable; they are dedicated and passionate about helping people. Our community is simply the best!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s been mostly a smooth road all things considered and of course there have been struggles as well. One of the challenges was figuring out what’s working as far as hours and staffing the studio. In the beginning the studio was open 9-6 and staffed all the time. After some time, I realized we could move to an appointment only model. Most people prefer to make an appointment, and in that way I was able to reduce costs and increase efficiency.

Another struggle has been getting the word out about what we actually provide and the benefits. Some of our offerings are not know by the larger collective and that was a barrier to getting some customers in the door. Once we added yoga classes, something people were more familiar with, more were willing to come in and then try our other offerings as well.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am the founder of Platform – A Consciousness Studio in Mt. Pleasant, SC. We specialize in bringing mindfulness practices to the larger population by providing easy access to tools that can relieve stress, calm the nervous system and in turn help bring about personal clarity. I am most proud of the teachers we have, the customers who come in and the loving, kind, open community we have created. What sets us apart is we have brought many different mindfulness programs together under one roof. There is something for everyone at Platform to assist on one’s personal journey.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
My dad always said “Ailsa you were born under a lucky star” and that has proven true! A big part of that is believing it so. I seem to be in the right place at the right time and doors open just when I need them. Of course, I am open and willing to take risks and that helps create the luck.
