Today we’d like to introduce you to Barbara Ellison.
Hi Barbara, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I am a speaker, author, show host, Transformational Life Mentor, and the founder of Wellness Playroom | For the Best Version of Your Life!
After the death of my husband, I came to the honest realization that I needed to reconnect with who I truly was in order to move forward with my life. I also knew I did not have to do that alone. Working with a coach became a turning point—life-changing in ways I never expected. What began as personal healing grew into a calling to walk alongside others facing similar transitions.
When people ask me why I do this work, my answer is simple and always the same: I just want people to be happy. So, I am on a mission to make happiness the norm rather than the exception—by inspiring people to live happy, healthy, debt-free, and abundant lives.
I work primarily with Baby Boomers and Gen Xers who are feeling stressed, burned out, unfulfilled, or quietly asking themselves, Who am I beyond my job title? Together, we explore identity, healthy living, financial security and what truly matters in this next season of life.
What I see for them is a future where the purpose, passion, and drive they choose now carries them into an active, healthy, and abundant retirement—one filled with meaning and contribution.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Has it been a smooth road? No, it hasn’t—and what I’ve learned is that it was never meant to be.
The most challenging season came after the loss of my husband. Grief has a way of shaking everything you thought you knew about yourself, your future, and your place in the world. I found myself navigating not only heartbreak, my identity was unraveling—wondering who I was now outside of all the labels and how to move forward with intention rather than just survival.
There were moments of profound uncertainty, self-doubt, and emotional exhaustion. I had to relearn how to trust myself, ask for support, and give myself permission to grow into someone new. Letting go of the old roles, expectations, and timelines was not easy, and yet those very things became the most meaningful parts of my journey.
What I have come to understand is that struggle often carries an invitation. When we allow ourselves to pause, listen, and receive support, challenges can become teachers rather than roadblocks. Those seasons shaped my compassion and guided me toward work that feels deeply aligned with my values and what I want my life to be about.
Today, I see the road not as smooth or broken, I see it as refining. My hope is that anyone walking through uncertainty remembers this: the path forward does not require having all the answers—we only the willingness to take the next honest step toward the life that’s waiting to meet us.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
My work lives at the intersection of personal growth, wellness, and life transition. I am the founder of Wellness Playroom, a space created to support people—especially Baby Boomers and Gen Xers—who are navigating burnout, identity shifts, health concerns, or the quiet question many carry: Who am I beyond my job title or job description?
At the heart of what I do is the belief that we are each created with purpose, and that seasons of disruption are often invitations to return to what truly matters. I help people move from burned out and unhappy to living their best life by focusing on clarity, identity, purpose, and sustainable well-being. My work blends life transition mentoring, wellness education, mindset support, and faith-aligned encouragement—meeting people where they are while honoring the whole person: mind, body, and spirit.
What sets my work apart is that I don’t push reinvention or quick fixes. I believe transformation unfolds through small, faithful steps taken with intention. I create space for people to slow down, listen deeply, and discern what God may be inviting them into next—without pressure, comparison, or performance.
What I am most proud of, brand-wise, is the environment we’ve cultivated. Wellness Playroom is a place of safety, reflection, and hope. People are welcomed as they are, and supported as they reconnect with clarity, calling, and contribution. We speak honestly about stress, health, finances, and identity, and we do so with compassion, wisdom, and grace.
What I want readers to know is this: your life is not on pause, and your story is still unfolding. When we align our choices with faith, purpose, and care for our well-being, the future opens in meaningful ways.
When you’re ready, your “career” becomes a life of unlimited wellness—one guided by trust, stewardship, and the belief that what’s ahead can be even richer than what’s behind.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I have never walked this journey alone, and I am totally aware that none of this work exists because of me alone.
First and foremost, my faith has been my anchor. In seasons when I didn’t know what having clarity even was and the path ahead was so uncertain, trusting God’s guidance gave me the courage to keep taking the next step. That steady presence shaped not only my life, it also became the heart of this work.
I’ve also been profoundly influenced by mentors and coaches who helped me see beyond what I could see for myself. They asked the hard questions, held space for growth, and reminded me of my strengths when I felt unsure. Their belief in me often arrived before my belief fully caught up.
Equally important have been the supporters and cheerleaders—friends, collaborators, and teammates—who encouraged me to keep going, especially in quieter seasons when progress wasn’t visible. Their encouragement, honesty, and willingness to walk alongside me made a meaningful difference. They saw me at my worst and loved me anyways.
And then there are the clients and community members I’ve had the privilege of serving. They continue to be some of my greatest teachers. Their courage, vulnerability, and willingness to do the inner work have shaped the business in ways no strategy ever could. Many of the offerings within Wellness Playroom were created in direct response to what they shared they needed most.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that meaningful work is built in community. I’m grateful for every mentor, supporter, client, and teammate who has played a role in this journey. Their fingerprints are all over this mission, and I carry that gratitude with me every day.
