Community Highlights: Meet Kwanisha Carson of Diverse Trends Hair and Lash Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kwanisha Carson.

Kwanisha, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started at just 11 year old braiding my older brother’s hair that it would start the beginning of my hair ventures in the beauty industry. I became a hair braider and perfected the craft so by the time I enrolled in the Cosmetology program at my high school I had a part-time clientele. I graduated high school with my cosmetology license and an established clientele. However,I went off to college to become a social worker doing hair part time, and after slowly becoming burnt out, I transitioned back into the beauty industry. Currently I own and operate Diverse Trends Hair and Lash Studio along side running my hair company Diverse Beauty Collection..

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road at all. There have been many factors shaping the economic climate, and those shifts have directly influenced how people choose to spend their money. As an entrepreneur, you do your best to identify patterns and anticipate trends, but some challenges—like COVID—are completely unpredictable. Navigating those disruptions has been one of the most consistent hurdles in my journey. Even so, I’m grateful that I’ve always been able to adapt, adjust, and manage every shift with God’s help.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Diverse Trends Hair and Lash Studio is a private appointment-only studio located in Lexington, SC. I offer braided styles, blowouts, relaxers, extensions including braided and braidless sew-ins, bonded and tape-in extensions, crochets, ponytails, natural hairstyles, brow shaping, brow tinting, lash lifts and tints and lash extensions.

I specialize in traditional sew-ins, braided styles, and classic lash extensions.

What sets me apart from others is my the atmosphere I create in my studio, my level of professionalism, customer service, and knowledge of services.

I am extremely proud of my reputation for classic lashes. I have managed to retain a large clientele with great success. Some clients I’ve serviced for years and they have healthy growing lashes.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite childhood memory takes me right back to when me and my siblings lived out in the country. We didn’t have electronics back then, so the outdoors was basically our playground and our entertainment system all in one. We always had pets—mostly dogs—and with all that land, it wasn’t unusual for us to have two or three at the same time.

One day, the three of us were outside doing what country kids do best: minding our business and somehow still finding trouble. We spotted what looked like a dog bone buried in the yard. That was all the motivation we needed. We dug like our lives depended on it, fully convinced we were about to uncover some ancient canine treasure.

When we finally got a good grip on it, all three of us pulled with everything we had. The moment it came loose, it snapped—and water shot everywhere. Turns out, it was not a dog bone. It was the water line.

And we got in so much trouble.

To make matters worse, it was Sunday. My family was in full Sunday‑dinner mode. My grandma was at the sink washing greens, and right in the middle of rinsing them, the water cut off. We knew our little adventure had come to an end. It was over for us.
