Today we’d like to introduce you to Katelyn Campbell.
Hi Katelyn, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started my private psychotherapy practice in 2019 after finishing my post-doctoral training in Charleston. After spending most of my 20’s in my doctoral program, I was ready to have a career that could be flexible with my other hope of starting a family. It ended up that I had to adapt both a brand new business and having my first child in the height of the pandemic in early 2020!
Luckily my business has been rewarding, a source of intellectual stimulation, and a supported me over the years as I have grown my family to two children now 3 and 5. It has allowed me to be flexible in my schedule which is the greatest gift. It also has allowed me to pursue a career-long dream of writing a book, which I signed a contract to do last summer.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The pandemic was definitely hard—I had just committed to paying for a full-time office space and suddenly no one was going anywhere. It taught me to be patient, adapt, and trust myself. As a solo practice owner, staying connected and not getting too isolated was a constant challenge. It is so important to feel connected to a broader community of your colleagues in this line of work.
As you know, we’re big fans of Katelyn Campbell, Psy. D.. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I’m a Licensed Clinical Psychologist and my therapy practice specializes in helping teens and adults with eating disorders and body image concerns. I also am passionate about working with individuals impacted by trauma and PTSD, which often overlaps with eating disorders. While I practice a variety of evidence-based therapy approaches, I am thrilled to be able to offer EMDR therapy which is a specialized treatment for trauma and is showing great promise as an adjunctive treatment for eating disorders.
What are your plans for the future?
I am writing a book which has been the fulfillment of a huge goal of mine! It will be published by New Harbinger in 2027. It is a book for teenagers that uses narrative therapy and expressive arts to aid in eating disorder recovery and body image. It has been the greatest privilege to be trusted with such a project.
