Inspiring Conversations with Alison Berglund of 6:33 Physical Therapy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alison Berglund.

Hi Alison, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
After graduating PT school in 2019 (go heels!), I started working in the sports/ortho realm. My first job was with the 82nd Airborne Div at Ft Bragg and then started working at an insurance based PT clinic afterwards. It was during this time that multiple people on different occasions started asking if I’d ever start my own clinic. Although that was never my plan, I decided to start praying about it and sure enough doors started opening. A few months later I moved to Charleston, SC and 6:33 Physical Therapy was born (named after the verse that was continually coming up in my life at that time, Matthew 6:33). Since then 6:33 PT has continued to grow by the grace of God and I have been able to hire 2 wonderful employees, my admin Kimberly and another PT, Dr. Matt. We are currently in the process of moving into a stand alone space. Our mission is to continue to help our community live active, healthy lives and continue doing the activities they love to do!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
When I evaluate my patients dealing with an injury, I map out the “road to recovery” It shows a line with a general upward trend, but with little dips and plateaus along the way. This has been my experience in business. The growth has been consistent and overall I have been blessed not to deal with significant adversity. However, the nature of running a business is dealing with uncertainty, slow months, marketing fails, and most recently delays in timeline (for the build out). So the journey has not been struggle-free but each one helps us learn and improve.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
6:33 Physical Therapy is a performance based physical therapy clinic in Mount Pleasant, SC. We are different from a traditional insurance-based PT clinic as we help people not only get out of pain but take a holistic and proactive approach to wellness. Our mission is to help people feel strong and healthy for the long haul, aging well and maintaining the ability to do all the activities they love to do! For some people that might be being able to play with grandkids. For others, it is participating in ultra marathons and Ironman triathlons. We see our clients as our teammates and family members. Their goals are our goals and work together to achieve them. When someone walks into our clinic we want them to have the best healthcare experience of their life. A client is more than a patient with a knee issue. Each client is an individual person with a unique health history, personal experiences, goals, ambitions, and most importantly, a beloved child of God. We pride ourselves on treating each person as such.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
no risk no reward!! I took a risk by starting this clinic and every step of growth since then has been a risk. We’re growing or we’re dying and risk is just a part of that growth.
