Exploring Life & Business with Shkettia Gelzer-Moore of Prestige Accounting & Tax, LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shkettia Gelzer-Moore.

Hi Shkettia, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My journey started near the end of my college years and is fueled by a desire to help people in my community. I’ve always wanted to provide honest, accurate financial help to people who needed it, but either didn’t have the knowledge or access to available resources. I started with tax preparation, but quickly realized taxes were only part of what people needed. I naturally started helping with bookkeeping and broader tax and business support using the skills I already had.

I’m an accountant with an MBA in Business and Accounting, and I work day-to-day in corporate and private industry accounting. While my professional work isn’t primarily tax, I’ve done tax work for almost 20 years and continue to build on that foundation. I’m currently working toward my CPA because I genuinely care about offering the highest level of accuracy and service possible.

I approach my work with a deep understanding of responsibility and long-term impact—both professionally and personally. African American CPAs make up less than 2% of the profession, and being visible in this space is important to me. I also want to build something meaningful that my family and community can be proud of.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been challenging in the traditional sense, but like anything meaningful, there have been lessons along the way. One of the biggest challenges for me has been learning how to balance being genuinely helpful with being firm and assertive. Early on, my desire to serve sometimes led to stress and a lack of clear boundaries. At one point, that pressure even caused me to step away from my tax business for several years.

Coming back, the challenge shifted from being technical to being mental and structural. I gained tools I didn’t have before—clearer boundaries and a more intentional way of organizing my time. Increasing my knowledge, becoming more assertive and firm, and staying grounded in my “why” have all played a major role in overcoming these challenges. Together, those changes have allowed me to build work that is both sustainable and impactful.

We’ve been impressed with Prestige Accounting & Tax, LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Prestige Accounting & Tax, LLC was built on the belief that people deserve accounting services that are accurate, ethical, and handled with care. What truly sets us apart is how deeply we care about our clients—not just their numbers, but their long-term success. Doing things the right way matters here, even when that means having honest conversations clients may not expect. If you owe, we’ll tell you—but we’ll also help you plan, prepare, and move forward with confidence.

While Prestige is intentionally focused on serving individuals and small businesses, the experience behind the brand extends far beyond that. I work day-to-day as an Accounting Manager for global firms and have managed accounting within large-scale environments, including publicly traded companies, global real estate development and construction companies, and currently, a global PR and advertising firm. That background means I understand complex systems, controls, and processes—and I bring that same level of structure, accuracy, and professionalism to every client, regardless of size.

Our services include tax preparation, bookkeeping, business formation, financial statement preparation, and tax resolution, with plans to expand into tax compliance and planning as professional licensure is completed. Prestige represents pride in our work, respect for our clients, and a commitment to doing things with integrity. We’re not a run-of-the-mill firm—and we don’t treat our clients like one.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I’m always open to meaningful collaboration with reputable, well-run organizations and professionals who share a commitment to integrity and quality. That can look like partnering with other accounting firms or CPAs, supporting small businesses, or working alongside professionals such as attorneys, real estate professionals, and financial advisors to better serve shared clients.

I’m also interested in community-based collaboration, including education, mentorship, and volunteer efforts where financial knowledge can make a real impact. With professional licensure just a few short months away, I’m optimistic about expanding the ways I can support and collaborate within my community.

Overall, I value thoughtful partnerships built on trust, mutual respect, and a shared goal of doing good work the right way.
