Hi David, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started Palmetto Carbon Cleaning after getting out of the Air Force in 2022. I knew I wanted to do something unique and interesting, something challenging and rewarding. I decided to start my own dry ice blasting business because Charleston didn’t have a service at the time. I wanted to bring a service to the area that would help other business owners keep their facilities and essential equipment clean and safe. I’ve been in business about three years now and I’ve discovered many ways dry ice blasting can be useful for unique commercial, automotive and industrial challenges. My life an an entrepreneur has been challenging and exciting. I get to use my work ethic and leadership skills to run a small business and raise a family in my favorite hometown.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Starting a business for the first time presents a lot of unforeseen challenges. I wanted my business to be a mobile service to best serve my customers but a mobile equipment setup is not available for purchase. After a lot of research, I was able to engineer my own mobile setup with industry leading, brand name equipment. Next, I had to navigate the insurance world for small business insurance that isn’t commonly provided. Finally, I started building relationships with other business owners and industry leaders that might need my service. My customer base has expanded throughout South Carolina.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I take pride in being the owner and operator of my equipment. I’ve learned how to provide great customer service, meet specific client demands and educate industry professionals and hobbyists about the effects of dry ice blasting. I serve the Lowcountry as South Carolina’s dry ice blasting expert for the commercial, industrial and automotive sectors. My military honed attention to detail and unwavering work ethic help ensure my customers get quality work from an experienced professional.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I’ve had a little luck grace my life and business, combined with hard work and a lot of research. I’ve been fortunate to find other small business owners who are willing to share their experiences and expertise with me.
