Check Out Mindy Romanosky’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mindy Romanosky.

Hi Mindy, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My husband and I came to Bookends after relocating to North Myrtle Beach for its charming small-town feel and laid-back beach vibes. As lifelong beach lovers, it felt like home right away, and when the opportunity arose to take over the local bookstore, we were truly delighted. As a former teacher and lifelong lover of books, stepping into Bookends felt like the perfect next chapter for me. We’re both so excited to be part of this wonderful community and to share—and spread—the joy of reading with our neighbors and visitors alike.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
We have been so warmly welcomed, and the wonderful people and readers here have made this transition truly happy and exciting. From day one, the kindness, enthusiasm, and love of books in this community have made us feel right at home, and we’re incredibly grateful to be part of such a supportive and joyful place.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We love getting to know the locals, chatting about books, and building real connections with our customers—especially when we get to recommend just the right book. We specialize in both new and used books, with a trade-in program that keeps our shelves fresh and our prices accessible. At the heart of it all, we love connecting through literature—sharing books, stories, and the joy they bring.
We also love welcoming our summer visitors and helping them find the perfect books for their beach vacation—whether it’s a page-turner for the sand, a cozy read for the condo, or a stack to enjoy all week long. Sharing great stories with both locals and visitors makes Bookends feel like a true community gathering place year-round.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Like any small business, we take a bit of a leap every time we try something new at the store. Author events, book clubs, and kids’ programs are all so important to us, even though getting them started always involves a little risk. We aren’t naturally big risk-takers, but when you’re doing something you truly believe in, those risks feel not only worthwhile—but just right.
