Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Strickland.
Hi Michael, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is Michael Strickland born in Greenville SC raised in Slabtown SC . I am 49 married and 4 kids. I went into massage therapy because of the effects I saw from getting a back injury when I was 19. I went to school at Alpha School of Massage in 2002. I spent a few years working part time while working in factories. 2009 I went into it full time when we moved to the Florence SC area. I spent 8.5 years working at Palmetto Chiromed with a group of chiropractors and ended up gearing my techniques towards the medical massage side. In 2019 me and my family moved back here to the upstate and worked with a chiropractor in Mauldin for a few years then decided it was time for me to go out on my own. I opened my massage inside Spectrum Villages to start my sole proprietor business Living Water Healing. I give affordable massages that focus on giving the type of therapeutic massage that people can afford in this economy. I have been open for 2.5 years now in greenville helping others with their pain and stress and I am loving helping them.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Nothing is ever easy especially with the massage industry. The concept of massage has always been relaxation and it has to have an upscale look and if you pay a high price then it should be the best. I work to try and help people understand that massage has way more benefits then just relaxation. It can be challenging especially when you have people disguising under the pretense of massage and give erotic rundowns. All massage therapist, always have to turn people down cause of the pretense that massage is associated with ” happy endings” no that is not the case and the national board and licensing board are working to try and stomp these out. So it has not been an easy road for any massage therapist, but us who keep trucking along are here to help people because the passion we have to help others.
We’ve been impressed with Living Water Healing, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I started Living Water Healing so I can give affordable Therapeutic massage to help people no matter if they are rich or working class. I know everyone needs massage but not everyone can afford one. I try to keep my prices at an affordable rate so it is a little easier for someone to affordable one. All my prices are the same across the board for different techniques. I am nestled in inside Spectrum Villages off Roper Mountain Road Extension. I keep my room serene but not fancy or upscale. A place where you can relax but get the techniques you need to help deal with painful issue or just relax and let the stress go.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Don’t give up if times get hard. Massage is important once people come in and see what it can do. For their stress , pain, and even postural effects. I wished I knew how hard it would be to truly network with chiros, physical therapist, and doctors. There are so many we all could help if more of us networked to help patients and clients to get the treatments that would benefit them more it isn’t about what is better it is more about trying to help people get the treatments they need.
