Life & Work with Eljielyn Kohler of Greenwood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Eljielyn Kohler.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Scoops N Cups Café started from a simple desire to serve joy—one scoop, one cup, and one conversation at a time. What began as a small idea rooted in my love for food, hospitality, and community slowly grew into a place where people could gather, slow down, and truly feel at home. I started by making artisan ice cream in small batches, focusing on quality ingredients, creativity, and flavors that evoke comfort and nostalgia. Over time, that passion expanded into a full café experience, offering boba milk teas, bingsu shaved ice, pastries, and savory meals—all made with the same heart and care.

Today, Scoops N Cups Café is more than a place to enjoy dessert or grab a meal. It’s a space for celebration, comfort, and connection. Our story continues to be written alongside the customers who support us, the community that believes in us, and the purpose that drives us to serve with excellence every single day.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The journey hasn’t been easy. Like many small business owners, I faced long hours, financial risks, steep learning curves, and moments of doubt—especially while navigating growth as a family-run business. Yet each challenge helped shape Scoops N Cups into what it is today: a community-centered café that values people just as much as products. Being recognized as South Carolina’s Best Ice Cream Parlor in 2024, Best in Regionals in 2025, and receiving the Propel Business Pitch Competition Award in 2025 were meaningful milestones—not just as honors, but as affirmations that consistency, faith, and perseverance truly matter.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
At Scoops N Cups Café, we specialize in artisan, small-batch ice cream and handcrafted café favorites that blend comfort, culture, and community. We’re best known for our bold, nostalgic flavors—like Ube, Mango Graham, Matcha, and seasonal Filipino-inspired creations—alongside our crowd-favorite boba milk teas, fluffy bingsu shaved ice, and house-made pastries and meals.

What sets us apart is the heart behind our work. Our menu reflects my cultural roots and family traditions, reimagined in a modern café setting. Every flavor tells a story—of home, heritage, and shared moments. As a family-run business, hospitality isn’t a trend for us; it’s a way of life.

What I’m most proud of is building a space where people feel welcomed, represented, and cared for. The awards and recognition matter, but the greatest success is seeing our café become a gathering place for joy, connection, and community—one scoop, one cup, and one conversation at a time.

What matters most to you?
What matters most to me is people—serving them well and creating a space where they feel welcomed, valued, and at home. Food is simply the bridge; it brings comfort, connection, and shared moments across cultures and generations. I believe when you lead with faith, purpose, and genuine hospitality, the impact goes far beyond business—it becomes a way to serve the community and leave something meaningful behind.
