Community Highlights: Meet Craig Hewitt of Vert Chiropractic

Today we’d like to introduce you to Craig Hewitt.

Hi Craig, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I didn’t always plan on becoming a chiropractor. I actually started out studying biology and neuroscience at Georgia Southern with the intention of going to medical school. I’ve always been fascinated by how the body works — especially how the brain and nervous system control everything else.

While I was in school, I dealt with my own back pain and decided to try chiropractic care. What surprised me wasn’t just that it worked, but how it worked. Seeing real improvement without medication or invasive treatments completely changed how I thought about healthcare. That experience pushed me to change directions and pursue chiropractic instead.

I enrolled at Sherman College of Chiropractic, where I really found my footing. My background in neuroscience shaped the kind of doctor I wanted to be — someone who looks at the full picture, asks better questions, and focuses on fixing the root cause instead of just chasing symptoms.

A few years into chiropractic school, I met my wife, who’s one of those rare native Greenvillians. As a matter of fact, she’s the third generation to live here so needless to say, it became clear that Greenville was where we wanted to put down roots, close to her large, tight-knit family. I graduated in 2019 just a few weeks after having our first child and we opened Vert Chiropractic in late 2020 — right in the middle of the pandemic. It wasn’t the easiest time to start a practice, but it gave me the chance to slow down, really listen to patients, and build truly personalized care plans from day one.

Vert was built on a simple idea — chiropractic care should be approachable, affordable, and grounded in real science. I accept insurance, use modern tools like laser therapy, and take time to explain what’s going on so patients feel confident in their care.

Today, Vert Chiropractic is exactly what I hoped it would be: a place where people feel heard, respected, and supported on their path to feeling better. That’s what keeps me excited to show up every day.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely wasn’t a perfectly smooth road, but every challenge ended up being a positive turning point. Opening a practice in 2020 meant learning to adapt quickly and think creatively, especially in the early days. I wore a lot of hats at first, but that experience helped me understand every part of the practice and stay closely connected to my patients. Those early challenges allowed Vert to grow intentionally, not rushed, and helped shape the calm, patient-focused environment we have today. Looking back, I’m grateful for that slower start — it gave me the space to build something meaningful and lasting.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Vert Chiropractic is built around personalized, science-based care. We focus on understanding why someone is in pain, not just where it hurts. Every patient gets a thorough assessment, clear explanations, and a care plan that actually fits their lifestyle and goals — whether that’s getting back to workouts, managing chronic pain, or simply moving through daily life more comfortably.

We’re known for being approachable and transparent. I take time to educate patients, use modern diagnostic tools, and integrate treatments like laser therapy alongside hands-on chiropractic care. We also accept insurance and work to keep our pricing as low as possible, which is important to me because I believe high-quality care should be accessible, not intimidating or out of reach.

What sets Vert apart is the balance between evidence-based care and genuine connection. We don’t rush appointments, we don’t use cookie-cutter treatment plans, and we don’t pressure people into care they don’t need. Brand-wise, I’m most proud that Vert feels welcoming — a place where people feel heard, respected, and confident in their care. I can also dish out some really excellent dad jokes, which patients seem to either appreciate or tolerate — both are wins in my book.

What I want readers to know is that chiropractic doesn’t have to be scary, extreme, or confusing. At Vert, it’s thoughtful, collaborative, and centered on helping people feel better, stay active long-term, and maybe leave with a groan-worthy joke along the way.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I define success by impact more than numbers. If my patients feel better, understand their bodies, and trust the care they’re receiving, that’s success to me. It’s seeing people return to the activities they love, knowing they feel supported and not rushed through an appointment.

On the business side, success also means building something sustainable — a practice that reflects my values, supports my family, takes care of my team, and serves the community well. If Vert continues to grow in a way that stays true to who we are and why we started, I consider that a win.
