Conversations with Sidney Huskey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sidney Huskey.

Hi Sidney, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I began homebrewing in 1991 after my sister gave me a Mr. Beer kit for Christmas. I self taught myself from Liquid Malt extract through Dry malt extract kits to all grain brewing and creating my own recipes. I began my commercial brewing at Good Times Brewing for their first few years. In 2022, I opened my own brewery, Sled Dawg Brewery. It is a small 2 bbl brewing system with 8 of various size fermenters. We have 24 beers, ciders, seltzer, mead on tap all made in house. All taps are rotated and changed as each batch runs out. We are also a mead winery with various meads in bottles available.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been a pretty smooth road so far, thankfully. Our biggest hold up starting was probably our location. We are tucked away in the backside of The Exchange in Uptown Greenwood. It is a little difficult to find us initially but once you do it is a wonderfully relaxing place to enjoy a good beer with friends.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Well, I am the owner/head brewer of Sled Dawg Brewery. I have 24 different taps on all made in house. The selection of beer on tap is constantly rotating with a new beer replacing each as it finishes. This allows me to experiment with a wide selection of beer styles and varieties. I think that alone sets me apart from most breweries in the state and allows me to explore my creative side when it comes to making a new beer. It helps keep everything fresh not only from me during the brewing process but also for my customers to learn and try a new beer each time they come in if they so choose. I enjoy making each of them happy. It’s nice to get their feed back after they have tried one of my beers, especially a new style they have never tried before, and they like it.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I have had some talks with other breweries across the state about working together on a collaboration beer but so far it has not happened. Perhaps one day?
