Today we’d like to introduce you to Sharron Dillard.
Hi Sharron, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Mom says I was “Horse Crazy” as a little girl. Stick horses, and model horses. Watching Roy Rodgers on our black and white TV. As I grew we got to go riding at the stables near our home. I got my first horse when I was in middle school. I would much rather spend the evenings in High School in our barn than go on a Date. I married my best friend and I talked him into letting me get a horse. Wherever we moved I had a horse. I was a registered nurse and horses were still part of my life. I loved being a Nurse and Horses. In 2012, became very interested in Therapeutic riding. And graduated from Path Intl as a Registered Instructor. I also, was given a Miniature Horse. He was so little, he lived in the dog kennel. His name was Tater Tot. I started a Non – profit-“Lets Saddle Up”. We offer Therapeutic riding for Special Needs riders, a senior program for adults, ” Silver Stirrups”, Veterans program called “LSU Eagles” and our miniature horse therapy team, we call ” Tiny Trotters Therapy Horses”. Presently we have 6 miniature horses. All are qualified therapy horses. Tater Tot, Moon Pie, Sugar Cookie, Blueberry Muffin, Snicker Doodle, and Nutmeg. Our Tiny Trotters visit nursing homes, schools, day cares, and community events. We also, teach an Anti-bullying program called ” Just Say Whoa To Bullying”.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Our program mostly has been a smooth road. The first struggle was we had outgrown the first farm we were at, Then we moved to another farm, we out grew that in 6 months. Lets Saddle Up landed at ” Solid Rock Stables in Fountain Inn, SC and we have been there for 10+ years.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Lets Saddle Up is a non profit therapeutic riding center in Fountain Inn, SC. We use horse to help people heal emotionally, or physically. We use trained Volunteers to help with our lessons. Our Tiny Trotters travel in the upstate to bring smiles, and love to people who need that. We are most proud of our new Horse Trailer. We use it to travel with our miniature horses. Thanks to the Laurens County Fair Foundation for the Grant.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Find people who can help you get to where you want to go. Ask questions. Don’t try to do everything yourself. Everyone has a skill you can use to get to the goal.
