Today we’d like to introduce you to Meaghan Pitman.
Hi Meaghan, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I earned my bachelor’s degree in Corporate Communications from Manhattan University and spent several years working in marketing, building skills in storytelling, outreach, and community engagement. At the same time, I’ve been passionate about animal welfare since I was a kid. It’s something that’s always been close to my heart. In 2018, an opportunity opened up at the Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach (HSNMB), and it felt like the perfect intersection of my professional background and lifelong passion. I joined the organization and was thrilled to use my marketing experience to help animals in need by sharing their stories, engaging the community, and supporting lifesaving programs. Today, I serve as the Marketing Manager for HSNMB, where I’m grateful to do work that aligns so closely with my values and allows me to make a meaningful impact every day.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Over the past seven years, animal welfare has continued to evolve. The needs have change, resources continue to fluctuate, and priorities shift. Learning to adapt, stay creative, and respond to those changes has been a constant process. Each challenge has pushed me to grow, think differently, and find new ways to support the mission, ultimately making the work more impactful and rewarding.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
The Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach (HSNMB) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit animal welfare organization dedicated to saving lives and strengthening the bond between people and pets. We provide safe shelter, compassionate care, and second chances for homeless, abandoned, and at-risk animals in our community. What sets us apart is our commitment to meeting animals where they are, both physically and emotionally. Beyond adoption, we focus heavily on community outreach, humane education, enrichment, and accessible services, including our low-cost Spay/Neuter & Pet Wellness Clinic. We’re known for telling our animals’ stories in an honest, engaging way that builds real connections and inspires action, whether that’s adoption, fostering, volunteering, or donating. We’re most proud of the trust and support we’ve built within our community. Our brand reflects compassion and transparency. Even in tough work, joy matters. We want readers to know that HSNMB is more than a shelter; we’re a community partner, an advocate for animals, and a place where every animal is treated as an individual who deserves love, dignity, and a chance at a happy life.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite childhood memory is being 7 years old and having my soul dog, Simba, enter my life. I had loved animals and grown up with other pets before him, but Simba truly changed everything for me. He was my constant companion and best friend, and I was lucky to have him by my side for 16 incredible, loving years. That bond is a big part of what shaped my lifelong passion for animals.
