Check Out Jen Hassaj’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jen Hassaj.

Hi Jen, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Healthy Intentions with Jen Hassaj was created out of my passion and desire to enable the average person to be able to physically help themselves navigate through either a new or older diagnosis, or simply to their healthiest self in the comfort of their own home.

For all of my adult life, I have felt called to help people. While I have been assisting people in person for years, having a website-based business has enabled me to reach so many more individuals, in their current circumstances, and create a positive difference in their lives.

I’m a Physical Therapist with over 20 years clinical experience as well as a certified yoga teacher. Healthy Intentions brings both of my worlds together by combining the healing capacity of yoga and mindfulness with my professional knowledge of all aspects of the body- from movement to anatomy to biomechanics to muscle and bodywork. These 2 aspects, combined with uncomplicated educational videos, help the members to feel more empowered, knowledgeable, in better control, healthier, happier and like they are the best version of themselves.

Over the past couple of years Healthy Intentions has evolved into a full program encompassing therapeutic yoga, other types of yoga, therapy-based workouts for the whole body, mindfulness with guided meditations and how-to videos for learning yoga poses. Very recently, through the latest development, I am ensuring accessibility to people in all financial groups through a steaming choice for therapeutic yoga bundles as well as individual workout videos. Whereby, individuals now have the options of either specifically selecting individual videos or, through membership, having access to the entire library of diverse videos.

I am excited to see where Healthy Intentions will grow to over time. We are in a climate of change with our advancing technology, our overall lifestyle differences from the recent past and with our general understanding of health and the human body. The interplay and connection of all of these things will certainly influence the needs of my community of members, as well as those of society as a whole. I look forward to evolving, progressing and thriving as the need arises.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Whenever you own your business or are creating something completely new and unique, I imagine that it is never an easy or smooth process. It certainly wasn’t for me.

I am the owner, creator, photographer, camera woman, editor, website designer, advertiser, marketing person, accountant and tax preparer, etcetera, etcetera. I have a ‘one woman show’ as the expression goes that keeps me on my toes by surprising me with new roles that I have to learn and new skills that have to be developed. There are new and unexpected things around every corner.

The challenge is keeping to your vision and goals if that is appropriate, or maybe pivoting and adjusting those goals for the new and better vision that has developed. You begin with a vision of the end result and an idea of how to start your journey, but you don’t necessarily know how to get there. Along your journey you learn and grow with every unexpected bump in the road. Your willpower, determination, tenacity, stubbornness and perseverance are what keep you going through the difficult times.

As you are going along your journey, when you feel alone and unsure, just remember that many others have been in the same place that you are and they were able to figure it out just like you will. If you have a dream, go for it!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a Physical Therapist, and I have worked in an outpatient orthopedic setting for over 20 years. Over that time, I have had the opportunity to expand my knowledge in various directions and topics of interest.

My various qualifications and certifications are as follows:
• Corrective Exercise Specialist
• Performance Enhancement Specialist
• Certified Nutritional Physical Therapist
• Survivorship Training and Rehabilitation Certification for Cancer Survivors
• Functional Movement Systems Certification with ability to perform Selective Functional Movement Assessments
• Workwell Certification with ability to perform The Functional Capacitance Evaluations
• Certified KinesioTaping Practitioner
• Myofascial Release with Orthopedic Myofascial Certificate
• Certificate in Wellness In Clinical Practice

I am also a 200-Hour Certified Yoga teacher and am currently working on the Advanced 300-Hour training to expand upon the depth and breadth of my yoga knowledge.

In the clinical setting, I am most known for my hands-on approach with my patients concerning soft tissue work, my knowledge of yoga and ability of blending the two with therapeutic yoga individualized for the patient.

In my online business, Healthy Intentions, I am known more for a variety of yoga styles, including therapeutic yoga, with the addition of PT based exercises and some mindfulness-based activities. That combination gives a well-rounded program for generalized maintenance and well-being or a plan that specifically addresses a singular medical condition or diagnosis for an individual.

I believe that having a foot in both worlds sets me apart from the majority of both Physical Therapists and Yoga teachers. My ability to address the true needs of the individual from various perspectives is a unique asset for that individual, to ensure that they are achieving their absolute best version of themselves.

How do you think about happiness?
Professionally- Seeing a patient or client achieve what they have been working very hard for is the best thing you can imagine. Being able to help someone to return to what they need or want to do or helping them to improve their quality of life is an amazing gift.

Personally- I truly feel happy and at ease when out in nature. Hiking to a waterfall or scenic vista on a beautiful day with good company is priceless. With my very busy schedule, I appreciate an opportunity for getting lost in an enjoyable project. Whether I’m building a complicated puzzle, working on an artistic creation or I am simply absorbed in a good book curled up with my fur-baby, Bella. These serene activities help me to remain balanced and in alignment with my true self.
