Inspiring Conversations with Crystal Cordoba of Balance Bodywork & Yoga

Today we’d like to introduce you to Crystal Cordoba.

Hi Crystal, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Originally from the coast of Downeast Maine, I have dedicated nearly 20 years to the practice and teaching of yoga. My path has taken me across the country through teaching, studio management, and ownership, eventually leading me to Greenville, South Carolina.

My path to wellness wasn’t linear. It grew out of lived experience and a lifelong pull toward practices that help people reconnect with themselves. I discovered mindfulness meditation and yoga at a formative age, and these disciplines shaped my relationship with self-awareness and the power of stillness.

I am a multi-genre yoga teacher trained in five yoga styles, alongside Thai Yoga Massage, Vipassana meditation, and Reiki, which I approach as an interconnected system of care. My desire to pursue this work full-time emerged from burnout in a traditional office environment in 2007, when my body longed for healing movement and my soul was seeking something more meaningful.

Yoga and bodywork are more than professions for me. They are pathways for resilience, emotional sobriety, and presence that inform how I live and hold space for others.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t always been easy. This path has asked for deep self-honesty, letting go of old identities, and learning to move through life with greater humility and awareness. Building a sustainable career in a physically demanding field has also meant learning boundaries, pacing, and how to care for myself as deeply as I care for others.

Along the way, uncertainty and self-doubt still surface at times. I’ve learned to meet those moments with steadiness, discernment, and a focus on long-term sustainability rather than intensity.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Balance Bodywork & Yoga is an integrated wellness practice centered on alignment-based yoga private sessions and specialty Thai Yoga Massage, supporting mobility, relieving tension, and restoring ease in both body and mind.

I offer customized sessions that blend movement, breath, and hands-on care, helping clients feel lighter, freer, and more at home in themselves. Thai Yoga Massage is a defining part of my work, bringing together assisted yoga, therapeutic touch, compression, traction, and acupressure in a full-body experience. In contrast to group yoga classes, private sessions allow for a deeper exploration of alignment, anatomy, and the philosophical roots of the practice. I’m most proud of the trust my clients place in me and the steady, meaningful changes they experience over time.

What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me is balance. Between effort and ease, movement and stillness, caring for others and caring for myself. The name of my business is a nod to this principle. When balance is practiced with intention, everything else tends to align.
