Today we’d like to introduce you to Erica McFadden.
Hi Erica, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
As a child I was always intrigued with doing hair. I began my cosmetology journey at 18, enrolling in beauty school right after graduating high school while navigating life as a teenage mom. After 14 years in corporate America, I followed my passion for hair and went to work for Regis Corporation as a stylist and later promoted to store/salon manager. After four years I opened my salon in 2014, where I specialize in locs, natural hair care, and braiding. My commitment to the craft led me to become a business owner and, in 2022, a certified cosmetology instructor — mentoring the next generation of stylists while continuing to serve my clients with expertise and care.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I built my business through persistence and adaptability—juggling being a wife, motherhood, slow seasons, and the uncertainty of the pandemic. Over 11 years as a stylist and salon owner I learned to pivot quickly, stretch resources, and prioritize self-care and family. Those challenges strengthened my skills, deepened client trust, and reinforced my commitment to mentorship and excellence in my beauty business.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I am a salon owner, licensed cosmetologist, and cosmetology instructor who, alongside my husband, Roger McFadden Jr. owner of Golden Cutz (a barber of 10 years+) and my daughter Jaylen Levy owner of The Esty Effect (an aesthetician), runs a family-driven full service salon. Our brand is about making people feel good —boosting confidence through healthy, beautiful hair and personalized care.
We offer locs and maintenance, natural hair care, protective styling and braids, cuts and shaves, color services, skincare treatments, and professional consultations and education. What sets us apart is our family team approach, Deep expertise in natural hair, commitment to client education and safety, and active community involvement—creating a warm, skilled space where clients leave empowered and cared for. We like our clients to feel at home.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I don’t believe in good or bad luck — I trust how the universe unfolds and I focus on treating people with kindness, respect, and integrity.
