Life & Work with Melonie Trinh of Clemson, SC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melonie Trinh.

Hi Melonie, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My formal educational background is in Applied Mathematics, but I have always felt a pull toward creative arts. After graduating and working as a Math Instructor for a couple of years, I ran into an opportunity to create digital marketing materials for a small business. Through this opportunity, I taught myself how to use professional design software and studied marketing concepts in order to create results-driven designs. From here, my client base has grown mostly through word-of-mouth and I now have a flexible, sustainable business that allows me to create the right balance between work and family as a single mom.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has not been smooth. In the first couple of years, there were times that I was just making it month-by-month, and many times that I was not sure if my business would last at all. I faced discouragement through failed marketing initiatives, and have gone through a painful divorce along the way. I wouldn’t be where I am not without my passion for design, determination, and Godsends.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a graphic designer that. helps small businesses elevate their brands. Usually business owners who approach me are already well-established and looking to take their business to the next level. I integrate marketing strategies, user empathy, and creative design to develop brands that will make deep connections and lasting impressions with a target audience.

My understanding of the market and my ability to capture a business owner’s vision is what sets me apart. Typically after my first meeting with a new client, they can tell that I’m not just making things pretty; I’m utilizing design to launch them toward tangible business goals.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
My advice for someone starting out is that if you have a passion, do not let your lack of formal education generate doubt in yourself. Your passion will drive you to learn and will shine through your work!
