Meet Russell DeMott of DeMott Law Firm, PA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Russell DeMott.

Hi Russell, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I began practicing law in 1995 after serving as a law clerk to a circuit judge for two years. I have practiced in several different areas of law but now limit my practice to estate planning and bankruptcy. I also serve as a part-time magistrate judge for Dorchester County.

I enjoy helping clients solve problems, whether it’s addressing oppressive debt or planning their estate to protect their loved ones. My office in located in Summerville, but we represent clients throughout South Carolina. I have a caring and professional staff, most of whom have worked for our firm for several years.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Practicing law as an owner of a law firm is challenging. The “technician” aspect of the practice is doing the legal work for clients, but I also wear other hats as a business owner dealing with operational issues, marketing, accounting, and personnel management. We have consistently grown over the years. The challenge is growing in the right way so as to maintain the quality our clients deserve. The COVID years were also a challenge and resulted in substantial changes in how our practice operates. We do more via phone and video conferencing, but those changes have been welcomed by our clients. Sometimes change can be good, if a little painful!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
The DeMott Law Firm represents clients throughout South Carolina in the areas of estate planning and bankruptcy. Our goal is to place his clients’ interests first and to find the right solution for each client’s needs. “I enjoy the work I do because it’s constructive,” founding member Russell DeMott says. Whether it’s dealing with debts by using the bankruptcy laws or creating a legacy for a client’s loved ones by drafting an estate plan, it’s very satisfying work.

Our staff is caring and professional. We’re a law firm that cares and puts our clients’ interests first.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
Summerville is a great town that’s growing but still has that small town feel. People are friendly and helpful, and there’s great sense of community here. The bad part: the traffic!
