Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Altman.
Hi Melissa, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been a Registered Nurse for 35 years and got into Functional Medicine and Nutrition about 12 years ago when I wasn’t feeling my best and none of my doctors were able to offer any valuable solutions. So, I saw a Functional Medicine Dr. and was markedly improved within just a few weeks. At that point, I decided that this is how I want help people. So, I first became a Holistic Health Coach, then a Functional Medicine Practitioner and then on to becoming a Nutritionist. I initially went to work for my functional medicine Dr. and then started my own practice about 3 years ago.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Overall, the blessings have far outweighed any struggles. Where God leads, God provides and this journey has been a testimony of His goodness, generosity and faithfulness in my life.
We’ve been impressed with Melissa Altman, RN, CFMP, CCWFN, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a single provider practice located in the heart of Charleston South Carolina. I absolutely love my patients and am very grateful that I get to be a part of their lives. I specialize in functional medicine and nutrition and help find the root causes of chronic health conditions so patients can heal naturally. I see men, women and children for general wellness, gut imbalances, auto immune issues, metabolic health, infertility and hormone imbalances, nutrient deficiencies, environmental toxicities and chronic infections.
The ability to build a relationship with a provider you can count on to spend quality time with you to teach you what you need to know to meet your health potential is crucial. My new patient visits are 90 minutes which can be done in person or virtually. It allows the time needed to fully understand issues well enough to make recommendations for the most appropriate testing to help someone meet their health goals.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
None. I don’t believe in luck.
