Exploring Life & Business with Kelsey Sturgis of The Sweet Spot Fruity & Blessed Refreshers

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelsey Sturgis.

Hi Kelsey, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
The Sweet Spot was birthed out of one of the hardest seasons of my life. I officially started on July 4, 2025, but God gave me the idea a year before that. During that time, my husband and I were trying to adjust after a major life change. He had to suddenly end his professional truck driving career after being diagnosed with stage 5 kidney failure, and as he started a new journey with a food truck, our finances took a very hard hit. We had never experienced that level of hardship before in our marriage. My online boutique was not producing income, and I did not know how to help financially.

One day while praying, I asked God what He wanted me to do. All I heard was one word: lemonade. At first, I did not understand. I thought, God, what do you mean lemonade? Having been delivered from alcoholism, the enemy tried to convince me that no one would want lemonade without liquor and that I would be wasting my time. So I hesitated in my obedience.

But earlier this year, God brought the word lemonade back to me, and this time I chose to move on faith. I remember God telling me that I had to adjust to our now to help my husband and alleviate some of his load. He has always been a provider, and stepping into this season was humbling for both of us.

I reached out to be a vendor at an event, planning to start small with a tent and a table. The very next day, I stopped at a gas station and saw an Italian ice truck. The Holy Spirit told me to talk to the owner. I hesitated, but out of obedience, I went. I told him I was starting a lemonade business and that my first event was that upcoming Saturday. I explained that I would be starting with just a tent and a table and planned to build from there. He looked at me and said, “No, God said He does not want you to start like that. You have to start mobile, and He is going to send someone to help you.”

The next day, I called my parents to ask if they could sign for a trailer. When our finances took a hard hit, our credit did too. They said no, but then told me they would do me one better. They would buy the trailer outright and let me pay them back. That moment took me by surprise because I can count on one hand the number of times I have ever asked my parents for financial help. I originally wanted a used trailer, but they said, “No, get a new one.” My mom said, “You have always had a business mindset, and we have no doubt that you will do great things.” That was the moment everything shifted.

One of my brothers in Christ built the inside. He installed the floors, lights, painted the walls, built the cabinets, and installed the serving windows. During that time, I was Ubering to buy what I needed for the trailer and to pay for the work. Even while Ubering, God was sending people to bless me. On several different rides, I received one hundred dollar tips. I remember one man, immediately when I picked him up, handed me one hundred dollars and said, “God told me to bless the first person I saw today, and I have not been anywhere until now, so this blessing is yours.” Those moments reminded me that even when I did not see how, God was already making a way.

When July 4th came, I worked my very first event. I did not have air or a generator, but God still provided. My brother in Christ let me use his generator and portable air until I could get my own. From that moment on, what started as just a word from God became a reality.

Being that we were in a financial hardship, I was still applying for jobs. I even turned down a position because God said no. I was still searching for steady income and planned to run my business on weekends and evenings. A few weeks after starting, I served lemonade at our church Back to School event. The next day, my mindset shifted. My Pastor spoke life over my business and said that a certain franchise had nothing on what God was allowing me to create, and that the lemonades were the best. In that moment, “just lemonade” broke off of me. My perspective changed, and I began to see the business that God blessed me with differently.

A few weeks later, we got booked for another event. During that event, a man walked up to my trailer and nervously asked, “Do you believe in God?” I said, “Yes, of course I do!” He said, “God told me to tell you to stop looking for a job. A job is not for you. He is going to take your business worldwide, and one day I will see your business on TV. God said to get people in here, train them, because you cannot do this alone. Structure your business big, do not think small. Get uniforms, put your logo on your products. God will provide.”

I took that as confirmation. Out of obedience, I did exactly what he said. I got shirts made, ordered labels for my products, and started carrying myself like a business that was already expanding. From that moment, God began to elevate The Sweet Spot in ways I could have never imagined.

The Sweet Spot has taught me that obedience brings overflow. Every cup I serve is a reminder that joy still exists even in hard seasons. It is not just about serving lemonade. I get to serve Jesus, share my testimony, spread the love of God, and bring joy and smiles to people. The name Sweet Spot is not just about sweets. It represents the sweetness of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.

Today, The Sweet Spot is thriving, not because of my strength, but because of God’s faithfulness. What started as a simple word has become purpose, a business, and a testimony all in one. Every event we serve, every customer we meet, and every cup we hand out is a reminder that God can take what looks small, broken, or uncertain and turn it into something beautiful.

The Sweet Spot is proof that when you trust God, obey His voice, and move even when it does not make sense, He will breathe on your efforts and make them flourish. My prayer is that every person who walks up to our trailer experiences more than lemonade. I pray they experience joy, hope, encouragement, and the sweetness of Jesus Christ.

This is only the beginning, and I am excited to see how God will continue to expand The Sweet Spot. What He started, He will finish, and I am humbled that He chose me to steward this vision. May every cup continue to bring glory to God and remind others that something sweet can still rise out of any season.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Starting The Sweet Spot came with real challenges. My husband’s sudden stage 5 kidney failure shifted our entire household overnight and placed a heavy financial strain on us. I was trying to find ways to help, even while my boutique was not bringing in income.

Although working in mobile business was not new to me, building this one in the middle of hardship was different. I had to start with very little, piece things together, and trust God for every step. From operating without my own generator or air at my first event to managing supplies, equipment, and bookings, it stretched me in ways I did not expect.

Another challenge was pushing past fear and doubt. I had to trust the vision God gave me and believe that something good could grow from a difficult season.

Every obstacle taught me resilience. Each challenge pushed me closer to God and prepared me for the success The Sweet Spot is walking in today.
