Today we’d like to introduce you to Mike Tilberry.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Growing up, I was always the overweight kid—the one who got picked on, underestimated, and overlooked. Everything changed in high school when I joined the football team. I loved the sport, but the weight room is where I discovered something life-changing: I was strong. For the first time, I found a place where I felt confident, capable, and in control. That sparked a passion for fitness that would follow me for the rest of my life—through every high and every low.
After graduating, I went to college to become a history teacher. But after one rough year, I flunked out and gained nearly 70 pounds. I felt like I had completely lost my way. I took a full-time job driving a Zamboni and helping manage a local ice rink, and as life steadied, I found the motivation to get back into shape. In 2005, I dove back into fitness—this time with purpose. I committed to a routine, learned nutrition, and fell in love with the entire process.
But life isn’t a straight line.
When the recession hit in 2009, I lost my job and once again fell off track. I got into a funk, my routine collapsed, and the weight crept back on. Eventually I found work driving a forklift, and that’s where the real transformation began. Over those five years, I learned how the body truly works. I came to understand the importance of nutrition, hydration, recovery, and discipline—and how all of it ties together to shape real results.
In 2012, I met the woman who would become my wife. A few months into dating, she asked me a question that felt simple but ended up changing my life:
“Have you ever thought about becoming a personal trainer?”
I hadn’t—but deep down, it made sense. I had always loved helping people. And I knew what it felt like to struggle with weight, confidence, and consistency. The idea of using my own experiences to help others who shared similar battles… that lit me up.
So I found a reputable certification program, studied for eight months, and passed. I was officially a personal trainer.
Around that time, we got engaged and moved from Pennsylvania to Myrtle Beach, SC. Finding a place to train wasn’t easy, but I eventually came across a gym looking for a group fitness coach—something I had never done before. I took the chance, interviewed, and was offered the job the very next day.
Over the following years, I helped that company grow from one small Myrtle Beach location to a national brand with more than 25 gyms. It was an incredible experience, but in 2020 the pandemic hit and my position was eliminated. Once again, life forced me to pivot.
So I did.
I leaned into online coaching and Zoom training, and it took off faster than I ever expected. I was training clients all day long, from all over the map, helping people transform their lives—even from behind a screen.
Then in 2021, the opportunity of a lifetime showed up:
the chance to open my own gym in Socastee.
We went all in—literally.
All In Training opened in January 2022, and by November 2024, we launched our second location.
It’s been a journey full of adversity, growth, passion, and relentless persistence. But the heart of it has always stayed the same:
I love helping people.
I love taking the struggles I’ve lived through and using them to guide, inspire, and support others who’ve walked similar paths.
And I love building a community where people feel strong, capable, and never alone.
That’s what All In Training stands for—and that’s why I’ll never stop doing what I do.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth ride. I was let go from a company I helped build, and the pandemic put enormous stress on the entire fitness industry. Gyms were closing, people couldn’t access the spaces they relied on, and everything felt uncertain.
But through all of it, I stayed committed. And I had unwavering support from my wife. Her encouragement is what gave me the strength—and the confidence—to go all in on myself.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about All In Training?
We are more than just a gym—we are a community built on support, accountability, and transformation. At All In Training, we combine the power of group fitness with the precision of personal training to create an experience where every member feels valued, seen, and heard.
From the moment you walk through our doors, you’re not just another face in the crowd. You’re part of a family that pushes you, cheers for you, motivates you, and holds you accountable to becoming the strongest, healthiest, most confident version of yourself.

With two thriving locations—Socastee and Conway—we’re proud to bring our mission to more people across the Grand Strand. Every day, we show up with passion, purpose, and the belief that fitness can change lives… because we see it happen here, over and over again.
This is All In Training.
This is where your transformation begins.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memory isn’t tied to one single moment—it’s a feeling I’ll never forget. Some of my most cherished times were spent sitting next to my mom, watching Notre Dame football. She was a huge Irish fan, and those games were our thing.
I can still picture the excitement, the energy in the room, and the way she cheered like it meant everything. Those moments turned me into a lifelong Notre Dame fan, but more importantly, they gave me memories I’ll hold onto forever.
Now, I get to share that same tradition with my own sons—passing down not just a team, but the connection, the excitement, and the love behind it. And that means more to me than any win on the scoreboard.
