Exploring Life & Business with Topher George of Topher Transports LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Topher George.

Hi Topher, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
The long story – 3 years ago I was working remote in tech sales and had moved down to Charleston with 2 friends to try out a different city. With 2 months left in our apartment lease, the tech company I was working for at the time had done a restructure where they laid off about 25% of their employees. I was one of them and thought, what can I do for the next 2 months here in Charleston to keep busy and make money. I had a pickup truck and came to the idea that I was going to help the community move furniture and items across town. I designed my own website through Squarespace, shared it with friends and posted on local Facebook groups, and was able to do some moving jobs here and there throughout the week. Fast forward to a few months later, I joined a larger moving company in Charleston as the Sales Rep where I did outreach to folks selling their homes, offering our moving services, and helped to provide the most smooth and professional moves they had ever had.

After a year and a half with this larger moving company, I had learned so much and thought to myself how much opportunity their is for me to do this on my own. I learned the ins and outs about this industry, and just wanted to be better. In February of 2025 I started Topher Transports and have grown to a team of 5.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting my own moving company has definitely not been a completely smooth road. As the only owner, I’ve faced a lot of challenges — from learning how to manage everything on my own to handling unexpected costs, staffing issues, and slow seasons. There’s been a lot of trial and error, especially in figuring out how to balance marketing, customer service, and day-to-day operations. But every struggle has taught me something valuable about running a business, staying resilient, and constantly improving. It’s been tough at times, but also incredibly rewarding to see the company grow and build a reputation from the ground up.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Topher Transports LLC is a small, local, and independent moving company in Charleston, SC built on the idea that every move deserves care, attention, and respect. Because we’re not a large chain, we’re able to offer a more personal touch — we know our customers by name, not by number. What really sets us apart is our white glove service. We go beyond simply moving boxes; we handle every item with the highest level of care, from wrapping and packing delicate belongings to setting things up exactly how the customer wants them. Our focus is on professionalism, reliability, and making each move as smooth and stress-free as possible. Being a smaller company allows us to stay flexible, build real relationships with our clients, and uphold the level of quality that bigger operations often can’t match.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most to me is building trust and delivering genuine care with every move. I take pride in knowing that people are trusting us with their homes, memories, and belongings — and that’s something I don’t take lightly. Providing reliable, respectful service and making sure each customer feels valued is at the heart of what I do. I also care deeply about growing my business the right way — staying honest, treating my team fairly, and being a dependable part of my community. At the end of the day, it’s not just about moving things — it’s about helping people through important transitions in their lives.
