Exploring Life & Business with Lisa Williams of Lisa Williams Event Planning

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Williams.

Hi Lisa, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My son became interested in being a DJ in middle school. We always encouraged our children to try new things and chase dreams, so he began with a few school dances. He eventually said that he would like to try to DJ weddings. That was a big jump from school dances to weddings! However, we agreed to help him with a wedding to see how it went. After doing a few, my husband and son realized they not only enjoyed it, but they were pretty good at it! I supported them by assisting with events and handling the business back end.
As their business, Hagan Williams DJs, grew, and they did more weddings, we realized that when there is not a wedding planner, the DJ often becomes the person who is keeping the reception on track and on time. When I was along for those wedding days, I frequently assisted with aspects of the reception that would typically be handled by a wedding planner.
Eventually, we decided that I should offer wedding event management as an added service with our DJ business. I was good at connecting with couples, and having a planner on board always helps the DJ!
Over time, I have added on full and partial planning to our services and became Lisa Williams Event Planning. I have 5 lead planners who work with me, and our team will plan and execute 72 weddings in 2025 (and are on track to do more in 2026)
Planning was a job that I never would have dreamed for myself, but I absolutely love it. Being able to help couples enjoy and celebrate the most important day of their lives never gets old, and I will never take that for granted.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Because planning happened somewhat organically for me, I wouldn’t say that it has been difficult. It has required a lot of hard work, but hard work is never an obstacle to me. I had a unique advantage of meeting other wedding planners and learning from them when I was assisting my husband and son DJ weddings. That was a huge bonus for me that, I believe, helped me to avoid some of the challenges that I may have otherwise faced.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Lisa Williams Event Planning?
Lisa Williams Event Planning specializes in weddings and serves South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia. We often work with my husband and son, Hagan Williams DJs, allowing for a coordinated wedding and event experience. We prioritize being detailed and organized to maintain a stress-free approach to event planning. We want our couples to know that it is TRULY our pleasure to serve them, and each planner who works with me and I genuinely love what we do. Getting to know our brides is very important to us. Whether we are full or partial planning or event management, we want to know the bride and her vision clearly so that we can bring her vision to life.
I believe what sets us apart as a company of women is that while the details of design and decor are extremely important (and we love doing those things), our primary focus is on ensuring that the bride’s most important desires for her wedding day are valued most highly. It may be decor and design or the food or simply that she wants to have fun and relax with all of the people she loves around her.

We (My husband and I) are known for wearing matching Nikes at every wedding we work together. We have been known to buy a new pair just to match the sunflowers in the bride’s bouquet. Our collection is ever-growing!

How do you think about happiness?
Seeing a couple leave their wedding reception happy and fulfilled makes me extremely happy! It brings me joy to know that I have been a part of helping them have the most amazing wedding day.

Outside of weddings, I love spending time in nature and just enjoying the beauty that God has created for us. My favorite person to spend time with is my husband, and I am extremely grateful that we get to work together each day. Seeing our 2 adult children and their spouses thrive absolutely makes me smile. There is nothing more valuable than being with the people you love most.
