Hi Shelby, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’m Shelby, the owner and founder of Pearl Medspa. I’m 32 years old and originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, where I earned my Bachelor of Science in Nursing. My nursing background spans both inpatient care and public health, which gave me a strong foundation in patient connection and care. My passion for medical aesthetics began at age 25, when I first experienced the industry as a patient myself. I was instantly fascinated by the science behind skin health and aesthetic procedures, and that curiosity quickly grew into a calling. When I moved to Charleston in 2021, I was determined to redesign my career path to include medical aesthetics. I began working at a local medspa, eager to learn every aspect of the industry. Within just two years, I took a leap of faith and purchased the business, transforming it into my own. I rebranded, redesigned, and built Pearl Medspa from the ground up—creating a space that reflects both my vision and passion for aesthetic medicine.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has been anything but smooth. Like most entrepreneurs, I’ve experienced plenty of ups and downs along the way. From the start, I was confident in my ability to treat patients, perform procedures, and deliver results. What I wasn’t fully prepared for was the business side, learning how to manage operations, handle marketing, and truly run a company. It’s been a steep learning curve, but every challenge has pushed me to grow in ways I never expected.

What were you like growing up?
I am from a small rural town outside of Cincinnati. I am fortunate to have grown up slow in a loving family. I was very active in sports, and my family did everything they could to help me succeed. As I think about myself as a young women, I know that I was naive yet curious about the world. I also have realized that I was a natural leader.
