Hi Aminat, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Bangkok, Thailand, where food and drinks are a big part of our culture. My husband and I took over a Thai restaurant in Long Island, New York. We had no prior experience running a business, and it was a real challenge—but we made it work.
While running the restaurant, I came up with the idea to add bubble tea to our menu. It not only helped increase our sales but also made me realize how much I enjoyed making the drinks. That’s when my passion for bubble tea truly began.
Later, we moved to Anderson, South Carolina, where I started looking for a space to open a bubble tea shop of my own. The place we found was completely empty—we had to build walls, install plumbing, and set up all the electrical work from scratch. It took us eight months to build and fix everything, with no income and only expenses.
One week before opening, the fridge we planned to use broke down. We ran out of money to buy a new one, but thankfully, my in-laws helped us with $2000 so we could finally open our shop.
Since opening, we’ve continued to grow and improve. I’ve built systems for my team because I believe consistency is the key to running a successful business. I put our recipes on the wall and use simple, easy-to-follow measurements so every drink tastes exactly the same as when I make it myself. We’re always finding ways to work more efficiently and to create not just drinks, but a full experience for our customers.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It was very challenging before we opened, but after we finally did, the most difficult part was managing employees and maintaining consistency. We had to create standard operating procedures to help guide our team and ensure everything ran smoothly.

I love learning and observing everything around me. Whenever I visit a restaurant or coffee shop, I pay close attention to their menu, presentation, and customer service. I’m an outgoing and friendly person who enjoys new experiences and finds inspiration in everyday moments.
