Today we’d like to introduce you to Chloe Thomas.
Hi Chloe, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Pencil Path began with a simple observation I made while working as an Occupational Therapy Assistant in the school system. Much of my work focused on fine motor development and handwriting skills, helping students improve their ability to write with confidence and control. Over time, I began to notice something important — it wasn’t just students receiving special education services who struggled with handwriting. Many children in the general education population also needed extra support with letter formation, spacing, size, and orientation to the line.
Through one-on-one instruction, I saw how quickly students could improve when given the time, attention, and strategies they needed. Watching their handwriting — and their confidence — transform inspired me to do more. I wanted to reach beyond the classroom walls and help even more children develop these foundational skills.
That’s when Pencil Path was born.
What started as a small idea has grown into a thriving program serving students across Charleston, Berkeley, and Dorchester Counties. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working with children in church programs, summer camps, and community workshops, helping them rediscover the joy of writing.
Today, I’m proud to offer print and cursive writing in-person and online— giving students near and far the opportunity to strengthen their writing skills. I continue to market and promote Pencil Path at vendor events throughout the Tri-County area, connecting with families and educators who share my belief that handwriting is more than just a skill — it’s a path to confidence, creativity, and lifelong learning.
My goal is to keep growing, inspiring, and sparking a love for writing
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Like any meaningful journey, building Pencil Path has come with its share of challenges. One of the biggest has been balancing my full-time work as an Occupational Therapy Assistant with running a growing business. There are days when time feels stretched thin — managing school responsibilities, scheduling sessions, planning lessons, and handling the business side of things all at once. But the progress I see in my students always reminds me why I started.
Another major challenge has been building awareness and trust — helping schools, parents, and educational programs understand that handwriting instruction is not just about neat penmanship, but about confidence, and academic success. It’s taken time, consistency, and a lot of communication to show the value of what Pencil Path offers.
Through both challenges, I’ve learned the importance of perseverance and connection. Each conversation, each partnership, and each student’s success reinforces my belief that this work matters — and that Pencil Path is making a real difference.

How do you think about luck?
I’m not really sure how luck — good or bad — has played a role in my life or business. I truly believe that everything happens according to God’s timing and purpose. Every opportunity, challenge, and moment of growth has unfolded exactly when it was meant to.
When I first shared my idea for Pencil Path with a dear friend of mine, who is both an educator and a true man of God, he encouraged me every step of the way. His faith in my vision and constant support gave me the confidence to move forward and turn this dream into reality. Through his encouragement — and by trusting God’s plan — I’ve been able to grow Pencil Path into what it is today.
I continue to learn, improve, and trust that God will keep guiding me as I expand my services and reach more students in the future.
