Today we’d like to introduce you to Simone Mack-Orr.
Hi Simone, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Absolutely! So to start I’ve always loved exercising and that was instilled in me at a young age through my parents exposing me strength training and outdoor activities. It also became my go to when I experienced some bullying beginning in middle school. My strength has always been important to me especially in the physical sense. I grew up very shy but at 21 I was given the opportunity to teach group fitness and it absolutely connected everything; my love for fitness, my love for people committed or interested in the amazing “lift” you get from exercising and then being able to share that! I earned my degree in Communications, but coaching and teaching group classes remained a main staple in my life. After working in non-profit, banking and workforce development creating and developing fitness communities became my charge.
I started offering classes at recreation centers and then took my classes outside to any open space that would allow me; the goal was to bring everyone together to just move and feel better and connect. I think without knowing it, I just continued to push what I wanted to offer to the next level, from space to structuring of programming to branding what I had to offer.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has not been smooth, I think that the bumps build character and also create these little “thinking spots.” Finding places to pivot in my opinion is critical; especially in this industry. There is ALWAYS a new platform, a new move, a new concept and as a small business owner you have to decide do you jump on every single trend or is the trend just what you already do in bright and shiny packaging?
Some of my first struggles started with me not having my own space and thinking that I had to have a place to even get started-FALSE. Just get started. I think one of the most interesting struggles was seeing who would support you publicly online, but not publicly in person. After having my business for almost 10 years, but fully functioning in it for the last 4 years there is always something to learn, but its not something that keeps me from wanting to continue, it just honestly sparks a fire on what to do next.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m Simone, owner of The Space by Smack Fitness here in Spartanburg, SC — a wellness space built around movement, mindfulness, and community. My work goes beyond traditional fitness; I help people reconnect with their bodies, build confidence, and find consistency that actually fits real life.
I specialize in strength, mobility, and functional movement — but what I’m really known for is creating a space where people feel seen and supported. My approach is simple and human: we focus on progress, not perfection, and I meet every person exactly where they are.
I’m most proud of the community we’ve built. The Space isn’t just a gym — it’s where people rediscover their worth, build energy, and connect with others who are doing the same.
What sets me apart is that I don’t just train bodies — I help people rebuild belief in themselves. My framework, CHECK (Capable, Human, Energy, Community, Kind), keeps that message at the heart of everything I do.
And my favorite reminder? Keep Mo-Menting — because wellness is really about staying in motion, in every part of life.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
WOW! I have several. So, with my mom it would have to be watching her sing with her band on stage. I always loved how she commanded the stage and made it look easy. With my Dad I would have to say taking apart his 52 ford pick up truck and learning to replace a camshaft; I loved working on cars.
Then my best memories would be watching them both workout at the gym and seeing pictures of them pushing me from machine to machine.
