Meet Joyce Green of Frios Gourmet Pops Summerville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joyce Green.

Hi Joyce, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
We are Derek and Joyce Green, and we’re excited to share a little bit about our journey and what led us to start this new chapter with Frios. This new adventure began when we connected with a company that specializes in matching people with the right franchise. It was through this partnership that we found something that really aligned with our family goals and vision for the future—Frios!

When we first learned about Frios, the mission of bringing happiness to others, one pop at a time, resonated with us. It’s more than just a business; it’s about creating joy and making meaningful connections, something that we truly believe in. The pops are hand-poured, made with real ingredients, and real food tastes so good. We also fell in love with how family-friendly the franchise is. It’s not just a business we can run for us kids, but with our kids—it’s something we can do together as a family.

We have a son on the spectrum, and as we began to explore this opportunity, we saw Frios as more than just a way to start a fun business together. It’s an avenue that we hope will allow our son to make a living someday, and a way for him to have something to hold onto even when we are no longer here to guide him. The ability to build something as a family that is meaningful and could benefit him in the long-term is something that mattered to us.

We’re incredibly grateful to be part of this journey and to have the chance to create a legacy that’s built on happiness, family, and love. We also get to continue to have our “day jobs” as a nurse and a teacher, while as we take these first steps into this exciting new chapter!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been a really fun and rewarding road!! We have had a few bumps along the way. For example, there are scams out there for fake events, and when you are new, you have no idea how to differentiate one from the other. We paid for several events that were not real, and we learned some lessons the hard way. We also lost an entire freezer full of product because we someone bumped a power strip in our garage. That lesson cost us a few thousand dollars. We’ve had events where we only sold a handful of pops (over several hours). We also didn’t really do social media before this business, so just learning how to use it has been a struggle! Those have all been lessons that we needed to learn, and we are grateful for each opportunity to be better business owners!!

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Frios Gourmet Pops Summerville?

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Make connections with other small business owners, because you are never alone. Tap into the expertise and experience that is already out there and then share your successes and challenges with those those around you! Keep family first and make sure the goal is to love and share happiness and kindness with others. The rest will happen when your priorities are straight.

We are still pretty new, so I don’t know that I have a list of things we wish we knew yet…ask us this one next year :)!!
