Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Clark.
Hi Taylor, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Taylor Clark and I recently founded and opened Lil’ Homies Pet Sitting, LLC in October of 2024, right here in beautiful Myrtle Beach, SC. I have an extensive history as a dedicated Registered Veterinary Technician with over 8 years of experience in the veterinary field in NC. For financial reasons, I later moved to Myrtle Beach, SC and gained 3 years of experience working in human medicine as an Ophthalmic Technician at local cataract and glaucoma specialty practices.
It all started years ago when I found a tiny Pitbull puppy dodging traffic on a bridge of a busy highway. I was on my way to take a final exam at CFCC, and the universe had different plans for me that day. I didn’t even think twice when I pulled over to scoop her up. She was underweight and in pretty bad shape. I was in disbelief to see how many cars simply swerved around her and kept going. Long story short, she stayed with me until she became healthy enough to be adopted out to her furever home. Her name was Kona and she was such a blessing to me and her furever family.
This event caused me to pivot in my career and go to school to be a Registered Veterinary Technician in order to help as many animals as I possibly could. For many years this was my calling. In 2019, I realized I could not afford to rent in the same place I had lived for over 10 years. This motivated me to move to Myrtle Beach, SC and purchase my first home, as prices and interest rates were cheaper at that time. As scary as it was, it was going to be more financially affordable in the long run, versus renting. Once established, I had odd jobs until I had created a career as an Ophthalmic Technician for human eyes. This was my next chapter for about three years.
Around this time last year, I found out my pet sitter, who I heavily relied on, was sadly moving away and closing their business. I was heartbroken and didn’t know what I was going to do. My fur baby was thirteen years old at the time and is a special needs rescue. He didn’t have such a great life before meeting me, so it was hard for him to trust people, especially new people. In the same moment of despair, I had a lightning bolt of an idea for a solution. I just knew I was not the only client feeling the way I was when the news was delivered of our pet sitters’ leaving.
I contacted my pet sitter to see if I could help out their clients until they get established with their new pet sitters. To my surprise, they were more than happy and willing to help me create and grow my own pet sitting business. I’m so grateful they have helped me every step of the way. Unbeknownst to me, this was my true calling. Not only have I created a business that fulfills a growing need in my community, I have also established a legacy for my fur baby. Lil’ Homies Pet Sitting, LLC was named in honor of him. He is now my CEO, Canine Executive Officer. Lil’ Homie has been my best friend, and jokingly four-legged son, for over fourteen precious years. Now I am happy to say that I am his pet sitter indefinitely! I am so grateful to be able to give other pet owners the same comfort and peace of mind that my pet sitters gave me. The highlight of this career is quite literally hanging out with animals every day and experiencing their love and appreciation for me. It is absolutely the most unconditional love that there is ever to be experienced. They are the best bosses I could ever ask for!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t think you get to a great place in life without some struggles along the way. The struggles are what make me the person I am today. They give me motivation to grow, change, and reflect. I’ve never been big into technology even though most of my career ironically has been working with medical technology. This was a major challenge to lean into when starting the pet sitting business. I now have a secure online booking/payment system for my clients to conveniently utilize. I’m also advertising on Google ads for my business. My goal is to create a website with my booking system attached in the coming year. This will be my ultimate challenge as I have heard creating a website can be tricky. I trust that I will network and find the right resources needed to accomplish that task.
We’ve been impressed with Lil Homies Pet Sitting, LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Lil’ Homies Pet Sitting, LLC is a licensed, bonded, and insured pet sitting business that caters premium pet care to pets in the comfort of their own environments and home. This business is owned and operated by a previous Registered Veterinary Technician with over 8 years of experience in the veterinary field. The owner/founder of LHPS is a sole proprietor in ensuring superior care for her clients and their pets.
My services can be requested from North Myrtle Beach all the way to Market Commons, 7 days a week. My general hours of availability are 7am to 8pm. Clients can email me at lilhomiespetsitting@gmail.com or call/text 843-447-9851 with any questions. Currently there is a link on my Google ad to set up a client/pet profile for a meet and greet. Meet and greets are essential to starting a comfortable and lasting client/pet relationship with LHPS.
The education and training I had gained as an RVT has been essential to maintaining a safe and knowledgeable pet sitting business. It has also allowed me to provide other services that most other pet sitters are uneducated on or are uncomfortable with. These services can include but are not limited to insulin administration, wound care, and post surgical care. All of these services are available to my clients as long as the pet is reasonably comfortable with the treatment.
Not only do I offer pet care in their own homes, but I also provide transport services for any grooming appointments, vet visits, or walking adventures where the pet is familiar. All services are charged based on time. I book and charge for the visit or visits, 24 hours prior to the service. This ensures that your fur baby is covered with care and that I have a confirmed visit for the next days schedule. It also allows me to smoothly provide my services to as many clients as logistically possible for that day. That being said, if transport is a service that is needed we will have to charge after returning from the transport visit with the total time. Myrtle Beach traffic, delayed vet/grooming appointments, sick or injured pets, and other circumstances outside of my control may have an effect on these situations and their timing. There are no separate charges for multiple pets, and no charges for medication administration. I offer “Quick Visits” that range from 30, 40, and 60 minutes. I also offer “Extended Stays” for 2, 4, 6, and 8 hour visits. At this time, I cannot offer overnights as I have my Lil’ Homie to tend to. For my clients that go out of town for multiple days, it is typical for me to go to their homes 2 to 4 times in a day. That ensures the pets have their breakfast and dinner, as well as, potty and play visits in between.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I believe having an open mind and sheer perseverance have been the two golden keys to my current success. I never thought I’d own my own business. I grew up in a time when you are told to go to school, get a degree, and work for an elite company. I followed that formula for many years but there was still a huge lack in my life. I was missing my happy. I was missing me. Being on the corporate hamster wheel took its toll on me. Toxic work environments are on the rise in the medical industry. There have been situations that were unfavorable that I had to push through. During those times it would have been easy to give up, but had I done that, I wouldn’t be here. I now have a career that I love waking up for every day. This has allowed me to enjoy more time with my fur baby, as well as, family and friends. That time is so precious and I’m grateful I get to experience more of it. I feel more fulfilled each day. I have found my happy. 🙂
