Today we’d like to introduce you to Carol Anderson.
Hi Carol , can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
As an undergrad, my loves were all things biology and psychology. I went to work for the Department of Mental Health, then transitioned to managing adult group homes for those with intellectual disabilities when I moved to VA. After returning to SC, I completed my MSW and focused on working with a variety of populations to build a broad knowledge and treatment base. After over a decade in hospice, I decided it was time to open my own practice and fully utilize my licensure. I began in 2011, and in 2015, I rebranded and moved to my own office. During the pandemic, I transitioned to virtual practice and began pursuing licensure in other states. I am currently licensed in SC, FL, OH, TX, and am pursuing licensure in TN as well. It is my greatest hope that all states will adopt the interstate compact agreement for social workers, so I can assist those struggling to find care. I pride myself on treating a wide variety of conditions and enjoy the challenges and complexity that variety presents.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I have been fortunate in finding good people along the way to help me transition to each new phase of developing my career. My biggest struggles have been with navigating insurance reimbursements, and I can understand why so many clinicians choose private pay only. Overall, I have been fortunate to have the support of other professionals, for which I am deeply grateful.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’ve always had a desire to assist those with disabilities or chronic health conditions, but I also made deliberate efforts to pursue training and experiences outside my areas of interest and comfort to build a broader knowledge base for treatment. I have a creative and eclectic approach, preferring to blend interventions based on client needs and preferences. While my intent was to keep my practice as diverse, I have developed an unintentional specialization in trauma, complex chronic health conditions, and autism.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I am neurodivergent, especially good at training animals, and live on a working farm.
