Today we’d like to introduce you to Gabe Pilato.
Hi Gabe, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
In 2020, just before the pandemic, my wife Charlotte and I started the non-profit A Longer Table, to provide food and advocacy for the residents of Charleston’s low income seniors in public housing, starting with Joseph Floyd Manor downtown. Through the pandemic and to this day we are still doing it, providing food, clothing, furniture, and healthcare advocacy for hundreds of seniors throughout Charleston.
I quickly saw a need for Medicare counseling for our residents, and eventually I got licensed in South Carolina to fill that need. Here we are 5 years later and my brokerage serves seniors at all income levels in 5 states.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Well obviously the pandemic was challenging for everyone. We really wanted to make sure that the low income seniors weren’t left behind while the lockdowns were in place. We set up tables outside and had tons of volunteers from all walks of life helping out, handing out groceries and donating items. The restaurant community really came together to help as well, donating food each week to the residents.
As far as the Medicare business, it’s always challenging for seniors to navigate the complex world of heathcare, especially when internet and phone access is limited or not available.
So we met with each resident that needed help, went through all their options and in most cases got them help they didn’t even know existed. It’s a great feeling to help relieve some pressure from folks, whether that’s putting food in their pantry or getting them the medication they need.

Before this portion of my life, I was a distillery owner and professional distiller and Sommelier.
