Hidden Gems: Meet Ryan James of RJ LAW LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan James.

Hi Ryan, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
After graduating college, I was formerly a Wall St. Banker in NYC. I had little experience but I was enamored with the title and the lifestyle. Unfortunately, things would take quite a turn. Just after the financial crisis, I was at a crossroads in my career and I had sort of a “coming to Jesus” moment. My late mother, who had a knack for knowing what’s best for her sons, advised I make a career change and go to Law School as I had planned upon exiting college. I took the LSAT and in August of 2011, I was enrolled in Law School. Upon graduation, I relocated to Greenville, SC to work under my Uncle, Senator Theo Mitchell. In 2017, I parted from his firm and began my own practice. In 8 years, we have grown exponentially and I am exactly where I am supposed to be. I have an incredible practice, run by an incredible staff.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’ve learned that nothing comes easy. But I’ve come to appreciate the journey more than the end result. I have an appreciation for failure because all failure is to be learned from. Once you learn to ride a bike, you don’t forget, you just have to fine tune some things for the perfect ride. The most difficult part of the process is eliminating relationships that don’t share in your appreciation for the journey. They don’t understand your selfishness. So you have to have the fortitude to move on from them. I have learned to do that and have practiced that religiously. Most of all, I’m compelled by faith. I genuinely believe in a capability of doing all things, if you have faith.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
RJ Law was born on March 1, 2017. We focus primarily on personal injury, which includes motor vehicle accidents, other civil litigation, and criminal law. About 20% of the practice is devoted to small business, primarily in the service industry. The success we have achieved in the time we have been here is quite remarkable considering in 2014, I moved here with nothing. What sets RJ Law apart is we really don’t focus on volume. We won’t mislead the general public with gimmicks and animations, advertisements that may not tell the full story. Instead, RJ Law is predicated on catering services to the individual Client, emphasizing that each Client has their own story to tell. They’re not just a file number in our office, they are real people with real legal problems. They have come to us seeking a result, and that’s what matters most. We are ok knowing that this may limit or slow our growth, but it is a formula that we believe works best for us. Not everyone is a prospective Client, it must fit. But we remain visible in our community and are accessible to all. Whether you’re a banker, in the bar business, a teacher, in sales, or otherwise, we are everyone’s Law Firm.
