Community Highlights: Meet Lisa D’Amato of Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Palmetto

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa D’Amato.

Hi Lisa, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I always had a passion for real estate but life truly got in the way. I ended up being a single mom of four kids in NJ and I was working as a training restaurant manager for many years. Had to make things happen for them. No time for my own dreams. LOL. I first came to the Lowcountry for a family wedding about 15 years ago and had completely fell in love with all of it. I new one day when my children were done with school, I would make the move. My three boys all became Marines so we were visiting the area frequently for their graduations and such. In Sept 2019 we had come for our last son’s graduation and we were introduced to Cane Bay Plantation. I totally fell in love. It was my daughters (youngest child’s) senior year and high school. Some homes and areas had been released that we absolutely loved so we decided to take a trip down in February 2020 and had the opportunity to build our dream home. This was nearly unheard of in NJ or just completley out of reach for us. We decided to sign on our new home and make the move. Covid had other ideas but we were still able to move in the middle of all that down to Summerville by the end of June 2020. I came down with myself, husband, daughter and brought my senior mom and disabled brother to make a new life. We had many challenges but It was great! But then in June 2021 my daughter (19 at the time) was diagnosed with Cancer and our lives were tossed upside down again. We had to learn everything fast and she started treatment in September of 2021. Now if you learn nothing else from Cancer it’s that life is way too short. We moved down here to follow my dreams, and I needed to continue this. Towards the end of her treatment I decided that I was going to finally go after my real estate license. This was extremely challenging being that I was working full time and taking care of getting my daughter better. But I made it happen. Took me almost 6 months LOL. I was officially licensed in the summer of 2022 where I started my career with Teamwork Realty which is now Better Homes and Gardens Palmetto. It was a challenging start being I was still very new to the area and didn’t know many people. But I put my boots to the ground and kept pushing myself. My first two years in real estate I had done over $4 million each year while still working full time. In the summer of 2024, I took the leap of faith and went full-time as a realtor. It has had many challenges as our market has made some changes here in the area. But staying focused and working hard is making all the difference. I pride myself on being different. I believe that collaboration is most important especially in an ever changing industry. I have created a small team of agents because real estate can be a very lonely field and I enjoy working with others and helping people grow to be the best versions of themselves. But it also allows me to give exceptional service to my clients. I take great pride in my team and helping them build and grow their business and we enjoy helping each other to help our clients make their dreams come true also.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Absolutely not LOL Real estate is not an easy business. It has a lot of ups and down especially when you relocate to an area where you don’t know anyone. This area is expanding so much that there is always some place to new learn about. People come from all over the country to live here and that takes knowing about how things work where they are coming from as well. I am also the relocation director for our brokerage so I assist clients that are coming from all over relocating for their careers or military. Since I relocated myself, I understand and can help them with all of those challenges as well. It’s not just about finding them a home but also the best community to fit their needs. And each area here has its own personality so it’s important to try and match those together.

I don’t believe I have any one tool in my tool box. I personally try and take a little bit of what everyone and everything teaches to be the best version of myself. I’m always looking to learn more to better serve my team, other agents, my brokerage and my clients.
